Motorola Droid 3: a Few of the Rumors Confirmed

May 21, 2011

As of late, rumors about the Motorola Droid 3 have been all over the internet. The last time I read about the Droid 3 is that it has been benchmarked and revealed a strong indicator of what its processor could be. The Benchmarks showed that it would be a 1GHz TI OMAP 4430 dual core processor although we aren’t really sure until now if it’s indeed TI or Tegra.

Most recently, a tipster was able to confirm a few of the rumors and we have some good news and unfortunately some bad news as well.

Let us start with the good news first. One of them is the confirmation of its debut date that would be this forthcoming June. However there were no claims as to how much it will cost. Another confirmation – which is the biggest confirmation as of the present time –  its display. Indeed, the past rumors are true that it would have a 4-inch qHD display, with a resolution of 960×540, which is awesome. The phone will feature an HDMI out port for all of your video watching needs. Also, the Droid 3 will be the first ever Droid to feature a front-facing camera but we are still uncertain what its resolution will be. Another great thing is that it will have a 8MP camera on the back.

The bad news is – since we already know that it will be launched this June, then that would also mean that it wouldn’t run Android 2.4 Ice Cream since Android’s latest version isn’t finished yet by that time. And – guess what – it will potentially be LTE-less! Too bad! Fear not friends, Motorola will produce a Milestone 3 which will likely have HSPA+ connectivity, which is still extremely speedy. Stay tuned!

Yes, we would strongly agree that the lack of 4G is a real disappointment. Nevertheless, the Motorola Droid 3 will be the superphone for Verizon users who badly want an exquisite sliding physical QWERTY. Any thoughts? Be sure to let us know in the comments.

Thinking seriously about this phone…does it still look like it will be “pure Android” instead of an OEM/carrier variant?

I think I’d fall in love if this was running pure Gingerbread…
