Verizon sent us a message earlier this afternoon stating that a small group of Motorola DROID users would be receiving the much-awaited Android 2.1 update in the next 24 hours.  This will allow Verizon to ensure that the update is stable before it releases it to the rest of the DROID community in the near future.

Verizon has posted a PDF file listing some of the update’s benefits that you might want to read.
