Well, T-Mobile USA announced today that the Motorola CLIQ would be available for pre-order on October 19th, which we kinda knew, and that it would cost $199.99 on contract, which we simply cannot believe.
Motorola NEEDS this phone to be a big success, and letting T-Mobile price it at $199 is not the way to do it when you can get an iPhone 3Gs for the same price and a Palm Pre for half the price. Moto needed tis to be a huge seller, and this price is not going to help the device, or Motorola, at all. Of course, Motorola’s health is not exactly T-Mobile’s primary concern.
The pre-order period runs through November 1st, and T-Mobile says that the CLIQ will be readily available online and in retail locations on November 2nd.
According to the press release, though, “Devices ordered during pre-sale will be shipped to customers as orders are received.”, which could certainly be interpreted as meaning that they will ship right away, once the pre-order is placed. This strikes me as odd, though, since an easier way to say it would simply have been “CLIQ available online on October 19th, in stores on November 2nd.”
I’ll try to get clarification.
