Motorola G Hands On AA (1 of 17)

Earlier this week Motorola surprised U.S. consumers by announcing that the Moto G would be arriving about a month early, with shipping starting on December 2nd. As for those looking to get the handset somewhere outside of Motorola’s online store, Amazon has now officially put the handset up for pre-order with an estimated shipping date of December 4th.

Just like Motorola’s web store, Amazon is selling the handset in an 8GB model for $179.99 or a 16GB configuration for $199.99.

For such low pricing, you might think that the Moto G is nothing more than another cut-rate budget handset with low-end specs, but nothing could be further from the true. The only thing entry-level about the handset is the price, with specs that are actually more mid-range than anything.

For those that need a refresher, the Moto G is powered by a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 CPU with 1GB of RAM. Other specs include a 4.5-inch HD display, a 5MP rear cam, 1.3MP front cam, a 2070 mAh battery and Android 4.3 with an upgrade to Android 4.4 expected sometime in January. Not bad for under $200!

What makes the Moto G even more enticing is that it is unlocked and off-contract, which means you can finally ditch that traditional contract-based carrier and save hundreds if not thousands of dollars.

For those that are more intrigued by Motorola’s higher-end Moto X, you might be interested to know that the handset will be available without contract for just $349 this Cyber Monday.

What do you think, interested in pre-ordering the Moto G or would you rather spend a bit more and get something with a bit beefier specs?
