new nexus 7 leak press

The new Nexus 7 is thoroughly leaked at this point, but, with still a few days until the official unveiling of the tablet, a few more leaked images can’t hurt, right?

After the ever resourceful @evleaks showed us some clear shots of the Nexus 7 2, it’s time for the folks at Android Police to pull off a new Nexus 7 exclusive. The image gallery below doesn’t reveal anything new in terms details, although the new wallpaper you can see on the device is said to become the default wallpaper on devices running stock Android 4.3.

As a quick refresher, in terms of specifications the new Nexus 7 is rumored to feature a quad-core Qualcomm processor, a 1920 x 1200 7-inch display, 2GB of RAM, a 5MP camera, and 16GB/32GB storage options. We think that the device will be announced on July 24, with availability set to follow just before the end of the month.

    Like the 4.3 wallpaper

    • OMGgary

Yeah, I like it too, and the wallpaper in these leaked images probably also allows you to read the oncreen clock widget and icons without problems, unlike the Nexus 7 2’s cousin, Moto X, who’s also in the news a lot this week. Although I understand why they want red, white and blue for a US built phone, the wallpaper being shown in the leaked images of Moto X has white parts that clash very much with widgets and icons.
If these images are accurate, it looks like 4.3 on the Nexus won’t be getting a transparent navigation bar. Must be just Motorola that has that.

    • Wallpaper is looking awesome…

I am afraid that the nexus 7 2 may not be able to beat the next gen iPad mini. What do you think?

    • Nickan Fayyazi

      I disagree.

    • MasterMuffin

I’m afraid that may not be true :) There’s no way iPad mini will beat those specs and if it does, it’s going to cost at least $100 more. If it doesn’t beat those specs, it will still cost $100 more :D

      • jusephe

They don’t have to beat the specs and they will propably don’t even try to do that.

        • MasterMuffin

So how will it be better then? More expensive with lesser specs

          • jusephe

iPad isn’t an android tablet, it doesn’t need best specs to stay relevant on the market.

          • MasterMuffin

Not talking about CPU or RAM here, I’m talking about screen and stuff like that. 1st iPad mini had terrible screen resolution

    • Jason Yuen

iPad mini won’t be getting a retina display this year. Without that, it doesn’t stand a chance. It’s already lost.

So everyone puts down Sony Ultra Z for not having a flash but then nothing gets mentioned here? Right….

    • jessem1323

Last time I saw, the Ultra Z was selling for $1200. By the time it reaches the U.S. that price may be around $800-900. The Nexus 7 is $229

      • K.

Agreed. The comparison is not relevant.

FYI, the z ultra costs 679€ (885$) in pre-order in Germany. This should translate to 600-700$ when the device appears in the US.

      • EvenInTheDarkestHour

So…at that price (adjusted by “K”), one could purchase three Nexus 7’s, use one as a main shooter, and the other two with white, and or colored lighted screens, as defused lighting panels for professional style photography.

Sony Xperia Z Is A Phablet And Nexus 7 Is A Budget Friendly (Specs Are High-End But…) Tablet And Check Price Difference Of Both.

    • Jack

This is a tablet, and the Z Ultra is a phone (even if a little oversized). You dont take that many pics with a tablet.

  • V-Phuc

Any news for its larger cousin, Nexus 10? Sorry if I missed any new development/rumors about it? Any upgrade, availability, and pricing for the US?

    • jessem1323

I havent heard anything about a new Nexus 10.

      • John-Phillip Saayman

        I concur

      • V-Phuc

Thank you. It seems strange though that a new gen. of Nexus 10 would not come out at the same time as its smaller cousin, Nexus 7. Any guess who would manufacture it if it ever is released, Asus, Samsung, etc.?

        • Josh Fischer

Nexus 10 wasn’t released until November. Not at the same time as the Nexus 7. I wouldn’t expect an update for it until late this Fall.

  • Michael Muyunda

    this looks legit

  • Cláudio Brito

    Dat bezel <3… Not!

    • EvenInTheDarkestHour

it’s got some thickness to it…

  • peakay

I don’t understand why they emphasize horizontal viewing, make the device bigger, yet keep the 7″ screen size. My OG N7 simply doesn’t work well on horizontal viewing with the on screen buttons and keyboard rendered – its too small. They could have easily included an 8″ display in this larger body size.

I do like how the wallpaper design makes a 7 — very subtle.

  • Phil

I’m i the only one who thinks that android 4.3 wallpaper is looking way better than the old 4.2 one

  • Ryan Castle

I want that wallpaper now, but it’s not worth getting in my opinion because by the time I get the Nexus 5 I will be using the Nexus 7 less and less (already happened with my 1st gen one; I don’t use it as much)

Don’t get me wrong, $229 for a 1920 x 1200 screen and all the other specs is hard to beat.

PS: Those bezels are huge. They could’ve made a 7.5 inch screen out of that.

  • Glewman

Do you think they’re hinting at Key Lime Pie with the green background? It’s kinda “fading” away from jelly bean’s red/blue theme…

  • smokebomb

Its still got that giant ass bezel. WTF?!?!

  • Nexus7″2

The Notification Light Is In The Bottom??? WEIRD!!!! o.O

  • monkeypox69

Wow, a new wallpaper! I’m erect.

  • cg006

I hope they give it wireless charging.

  • Michał Kumor

    The hour is 4.30 = Android 4.3 ? :>

  • Bob likes Cheese

Am I the only one that thinks the wallpaper looks like a seven in portrait mode?
