Lode Runner Classic hits the Play Store to provide your old-school gaming fix
While we Android gamers aren’t exactly starved for choice, sometimes there is just nothing quite like the classics. Originally released in 1983 on the Apple II, Lode Runner Classic has now made its way to the Google Play Store.
If you’ve never played it before, the goal of the game is deceptively simple: collect all the gold in the level while avoiding the guards. Once you’ve got all the goal, make your way to the exit at the top of the screen. That’s it. As you might imagine, things are a bit more complicated than they seem, and in true old-school fashion, you only start with a total of five lives available.
Developer Tozai Games has added a few modern touches to the game like the ability to zoom in on your character or adjust the gameplay speed. See the list below for a more in depth look at the game’s new features:
- 150 puzzling levels – all unlocked and accessible
- Two game modes – Expedition and Time Attack
- New magnification effect – zoom the action around the Runner
- Multiple play speeds – super slow to superfast action
- Fully adjustable color palettes
- Worldwide leaderboards
- Multiple control schemes
- Illustrated How to Play section
