Do you remember the two rather unique mid-range smartphones that LG launched just ahead of its main G5 flagship back at MWC? Well, the “specialist” X cam and X screen handsets are beginning their global roll out this week, making their first stop in South Korea before hitting other markets around the world.

Following the retail launch in South Korea this week, the X cam and X screen will be heading out to LG’s key markets, including Europe, Latin America, and Asia. LG still hasn’t given us any information about pricing yet, as this will no doubt vary by region, but we’re certainly looking at mid-range smartphones here.

For a recap, the LG X cam aims to offer some top notch camera features, as the name implies. The phone comes with two rear cameras, one 13 megapixel and one 5 megapixel with a wide angle lens, sort of like the LG G5. There’s also an 8 megapixel camera for selfies, along with LG’s Animated Photo and Panorama View software features included. The phone packs a 5.2-inch 1080p display, a 1.14GHz octa-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and a 2,520mAh battery, making it a reasonable performer too.

The X screen comes with an LG V10-esque secondary Always-On display, which offers up information about notifications, the time, and date, without having to wake up the phone. Spec wise, the phone has a 4.93-inch 720p main display, 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory, a 2,300mAh battery, and a 13 megapixel rear 8 megapixel front camera combination.

The X cam will be available in Titan Silver, White, Gold or Pink Gold in all the regions listed above, while the X screen comes in a choice of Black, White or Pink Gold. Have either of these two mid-rangers from LG caught your interest?

X cam and X screen Offer Unique Features Unavailable on Competing Devices

SEOUL, Mar. 22, 2016 ― LG Electronics (LG) will launch its X series, a mass-tier smartphone lineup with premium features until now only available on LG’s flagship models, starting this week. The X screen and X cam will first be available in South Korea followed by key markets worldwide including Europe, Latin America and Asia.

The X series is designed to deliver exceptional value to those who want a smartphone with unique features such as Dual Cameras or the Second Screen. Like the LG G5, the X cam inherits a similar 120-degree wide angle lens to complement the standard lens. The 13MP standard angle lens and the 5MP wide angle camera on the rear of the X cam delivers as wide a field of view as the human eye.

The X cam offers Pop-out Picture feature which combines the two images taken with the standard and wide angle lenses to create a picture-in-a-frame effect. Available only on the X cam, Animated Photo delivers a hybrid video and still photo, one framed by the other (http://on.fb.me/1pPxEd5). And Panorama View automatically scrolls a wide image instead of a static image and the Signature feature allows users to add a caption or byline after taking a photo.

The X screen comes with LG’s Second Screen, a feature which was first introduced in the LG V10. The Always-on Display allows users to check basic information such as time, date and notifications without having to wake up the phone, the first mid-tier smartphone to offer this unique feature. The X screen’s look is complemented by the crystal-clear glass fiber material that covers the back. The curved edges on its sides create a simple yet elegant design.

“What’s appealing about the X screen and X cam is that each offers one great feature in a complete package that doesn’t break the bank,” said Juno Cho, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “Starting with the X series, we’re introducing the best in camera and display technology in a mass-tier device, something that has never been done before.”

I think the best of these two mid-range smartphones is LG X Screen because it has two displays really respectable camera and has a premium looking glass back it looks a like Samsung Galaxy S7 a little bit.

    • ikaros02

I actually thought first it was LG branded S7.

      • Martynas Girdauskas

Yeah LG could have named LG X Screen – LG S7

    • Yumasaki Walker

it doesn’t look like the Galaxy s7 it looks like the Samsung galaxy A9

But we already have an “LG xCam” ;-) in the form of an App.
