While it could certainly take a cue from Samsung when talking about marketing and building up hype around a newly unveiled device, LG is looking like it could actually create an interesting advertising campaign around the Optimus 4X HD smartphone.

Unveiled way back in February at the MWC, the Optimus 4X HD disappeared from the eye of the public for a while, but popped up again a couple of days ago, when it was officially announced as hitting Europe in June.

And while June is still a long way to go, LG has launched a cool promotional video to show off the Optimus 4X HD, which should keep people talking about the handheld for some time. The clip is short, but very catchy, with upbeat music and some cool special effects that will make you feel like you’re watching a trailer for The Avengers (insert your favorite high-profile action movie here).

I also appreciate the fact that LG has taken the time to create a scenario that explains the handheld’s name. The 4X therefore stands for “eXcellent Performance”, “eXceptional Display” and eXquisite Design”, which altogether make for a “Beyond eXpectation” phone. Okay, it’s not the smartest word play ever (or letter play), but we should still appreciate the effort put towards promoting the device.

Aside from the music, special effects and “letter play”, the video doesn’t reveal anything we didn’t already know. The promo insists predominantly on the display, the elegant design, and the quad-core processor.

Those of you who’ve missed the Optimus 4X HD’s unveiling(s) should know that LG’s new flagship will sport a 4.7-inch “True HD” IPS screen with 1280 x 720 pixels resolution, and feature a 1.5 GHz quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of on-board memory, 8 MP/1.3 MP dual cameras, and a hefty 2,140 mAh battery.

In terms of software, the Optimus 4X HD will run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with the freshly unveiled Optimus UI 3.0 overlay on top. No details about pricing are known for now, with the phone being set to hit America and Asia immediately after Europe, where users should expect a June release.

Check out the promo video below and tell us if you think that LG’s Optimus 4X HD has what it takes to become a true competitor for the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the HTC One X.

Still not touching another LG phone.
    Made the mistake once.

I would think HD would have to be at 1920×1080 without getting downscaled, not “True HD” IPS screen with 1280 x 720 pixels”
