LG G2 _ Film the Earth from the stratosphere with 13 MP OIS Camera - YouTube 45 000839

We’re not sure why LG chose to dub its marketing stunt experiment a “world first”, but we’ll give them the benefit of the doubt on this one.

LG took a shiny new G2 smartphone equipped with a 13MP camera with optical image stabilization, tied it to a weather balloon and sent it to the upper edge of the atmosphere. Of course, the journey to the heavens was documented with the device’s own camera, and we have to say, the G2 recorded some beautiful imagery.

The G2 had to battle extreme conditions during its vertical adventure – temperatures as low as -50 centigrade, as well as powerful high altitude currents. With that in mind, the end results are pretty impressive, don’t you think?

Where have I seen this before? Oh now I know, Nokia did this not only once, but at least twice with its Lumias

    • Google did with the Nexus S…

I actually didn’t remember that, but I was just saying the most recent one I could remember :)

Glad it works so well up there. Next time I plan to go to the stratosphere, if my contact is about to expire, I might consider getting this phone.

This could be useful… if you’re Felix Baumgartner.

And Nexus One once traveled to earth orbit, if I’m not mistaking.
