LG G2 KitKat OTA update rolling out now

by: Andrew GrushMarch 3, 2014

Last week the T-Mobile LG G2 saw Android 4.4 KitKat, at least for those willing to use the LG PC utility to download it. If you were one of the folks waiting off for an official OTA rollout, T-Mobile’s support page confirms the KitKat update will start pushing out over airwaves today — at least for those who manually initiate the download by going into settings to check for a new update.

The update won’t actually starting notifying folks of its arrival until sometime between the 6th of March and the 25th. So what’s new here? Not a whole lot, other than than the improvements you’d expect from Android 4.4 KitKat. T-Mobile’s change-log also notes auto brightness fixes and a few other “user improvements”.

This sounds pretty similar to what we’ve seen from KitKat updates for devices the Samsung GS4 and Note 3. Still, Android 4.4 KitKat brings enough changes that this is still a pretty solid update, even if there isn’t much new (if anything) in the way of carrier or manufacturer changes.

Keep in mind that these is still a staged rollout, so even manually pulling the update might not work just yet. So how about it, anyone get the update yet? If so, notice any other changes that aren’t mentioned in the brief change-log?

I have update my LG G2 to 4.4.2 Vodafone Europe and the Art is not coming in this update. But the speed has been increased a lot

How about Multiwindow? Honestly its the only reason why im stuck with G Flex ports (Rayglobe 4 atm)

      • Sunjay Bhogal

I updated my LG G2 – 32 gig to 4.4.2 Vodafone Spain (according to the file name). Speed is fast on my phone with great performance. Much better performance when you compare to the Android 4.2.2

Wonder when Verizon will get this. I think it’s pretty embarrassing that LG can’t even update their WiFi LG G Pad 8.3 before they update their smartphones on carriers.

    • NnmsHckr

Absolutely agree with you. I’m waiting KitKat for my G Pad as well.

Verizon will get theirs in March… of 2017. VZW update nazi policy pisses me off. “Don’t release KitKat until we get google to change the OS name from KitKat to AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint Can Suck It. Also, make it so the phone will apply no less than 47 more Verizon logos on itself.”

      • Jan Morrida

I laugh at this comment, cuz its so true. They plaster there logo everywhere. Drives us all nuts. Ads are taking over the world.

are you serious? how do you know it will be another 3 years before verizon users see the update?? Do you work for them?

        • YellowDevil

The people at Verizon in the store told me “Not sure when the update will come out through us, but we’ll most likely be the last to get it out” so… Blazing fast 4G LTE, but slower than a legless turtle at updating software.

    • Jan Morrida

I wondered that same thing too. I also have the g pad and check a couple times a week for the kitkat update. Just says I’m running the latest. Dragging it on!

When will the update to 4.4 KitKat reach users of the international version?

    • Mohamed Shokry

shouldn’t the update reach the international version first since LG put their skin (UI) on 4.4.2 kitkat… I mean the US version still has to pass through the carrier to put their additional features or so, while the international version doesn’t need more than LG’s skin which is supposed to be ready… or am I misunderstanding something within the process???

      • Jake Santos

I believe so too but to be honest I’m not so sure. I was thinking that the OTA update should be available to the international version first since the update will be coming directly straight from LG and not some carriers. Apparently, that seems not to be the case. I manually check mine on a daily basis for an update but sadly there isn’t one up until now.

I have the D802 – 32 gig International version which I am based in the UK. I purchased my phone from an outlet based in Hong Kong, this was delivered with Android 4.2.2 as expected but with NO 4G toggle. I decided to upload Android 4.4.2 KitKat Kdz file to my mobile myself instead waiting for the OTA, this allowed me to use 4G. The firmware used was for Vodafone Spain Android 4.4.2. So impress that this has done the trick.

Would you mind letting me know how much import tax you paid on this? I was contemplating getting one from HK but then bought mine used off Gumtree from someone who had purchased it from HK.

        • Taz

£370, no import tax, 1 year warranty.

          • Jason Nguyen

            Thank you.

Curious if LG’s Kitkat has a patch to fix text wrapping/reflow that google removed. . . so a browser other than Opera will work properly.

  • azad

is it international update or ?

  • Gynyne Franks

Are the white LG G2 models getting the OTA update as well. Dont want to waste time constantly checking for an update that will never come.

    • Varun Dhasmana

This update is exclusive to Black models…

      • fp

So when would the white models get the update?

        • Matt

have any of you gotten it yet?

      • YellowDevil

I see what you did there

  • Timmy

Noticeable improvement in battery life which I didn’t think would be possible. Speed seems about the same and so far no app crashes or conflicts. Still wondering through other apps to see what’s changed.

  • Jan Morrida

Yeah, got my kitkat update on my lg g2 att variant. Like the update so far with one big exception. They changed the status bar icons to stark white from that really nice blue. Hate it

  • Vinay Dixit

I was able to download my android 4.4.2 from LG PC Suite. Initially after the download there was some difficulty with some of LG’ s own bloatware on the phone. Couple days later T Mobile started OTA updates and the problem got fixed by itself. Didn’t experience much changes from the previous version of android except that the battery consumption has improved a lot. Other areas it is pretty much same.

  • Jimmy Gillentine

Any news when Sprint will be pushing out KITKAT for the LG G2?

  • Jimmy Gillentine

What about Sprint? Any news when we will get it?

  • User

Singapore’s LG G2 owner already start receiving the OTA update

  • Ignatius Ferdi

Already got the 4.4 kitkat update, lg d802 / international ver.

    • King Johnno

Did you get it OTA? or PC Utility?
