LG G2 Android 4.4 KitKat update tipped for November/December

November 5, 2013

    LG G2 Review Hands On

A French mobile operator revealed on its smartphone software update page that the LG G2 will be updated to Android 4.4 KitKat in the following weeks.

Without providing an actual update date, SFR has listed “November or December 2013” as the expected KitKat update period for LG’s flagship smartphone, which is what the Nexus 5 is largely based on.

According to SFR, the Android 4.4 KitKat update will arrive as an over-the-air download – nothing strange here – although other details aren’t revealed at this time. While this is a France-related KitKat update schedule, we expect the new OS to be available to LG G2 owners in other regions as well around that time

Android 4.4 KitKat has been quietly made official last week, a surprising move by Google considering it officially announced the name of its next OS update in early September, and is currently available on the Nexus 5 – check out everything you need to know about it here.

Various AOSP KitKat ports for the Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 have been made available, and even the Galaxy Nexus got its own KitKat version up and running despite not being officially supported anymore.

Let’s hope that this also means they’re working on the G Pad update and skip 4.3 completely.

You know, since it’s their only tablet. Shouldn’t be hard.

      • Ugslick

Well we already know they haven’t wasted any time on 4.3 :P if weget update, it’ll be 4.4 for sure.

        • mustbepbs

That would be pretty incredible if we got 4.4 in a timely manner.

          • Ugslick

Yeah, I kind of feel like LG has been waiting for a major refresh of Android (instead of the incremental updates we’ve been seeing since 4.1) to kind of start building and refining their software experience from the ground up. Obviously this is entirely speculation, but LG never had any 4.3 update plans for any devices, and it looks like they are planning to put out 4.4 eventually, and maybe sooner than expected. It’ll be a pleasant surprise at the very least :) I think LG is the android manufacturer to beat from this point onwards.

            • mustbepbs

              Agreed.

    • Brett

Wait…what? They could have it before the Nexus 4……

Please LG, make this be true. G2 is awesome, KitKat would make awesomer!

Don’t Joke with me. LG & Update is just a bad combination. That never happened in past.

      • Ryan Castle

        You know…companies can change.

        • Themask007

We will see to that with time to come. But I don’t believe in miracles but the hard work.

        • Bonnie Kettrick- DiCostanzo

True. . I think LG is going to make this happen as this is one reason ppl were afraid of the G2. They are proving themselves once its out.

    • MrChris

So will this mean that LG owners will be able to install the Google Experience launcher and get rid of the nasty LG launcher?

      • Mike Bastable

LG launcher is actually oke, lets you change the icons n stuff, better tahn Sony

    • arjman22

This is a game changer for me , I was hesitant to buy the G2 because of LG’s slow or hardly ever updating their devices and decided to get the N5 instead. But now i might as well go for the 3000mAmp beast.
