The Lenovo Z1 – also known as the Zuk Z1 – has launched in India today, with Cyanogen OS 12.1 based on Android 5.1.1. Lollipop (with a planned upgrade to Cyanogen OS 13). In China it is known as the Zuk Z1 but in India it will be known as the “Lenovo Z1 – powered by Zuk”. It’s not the only weird rebranding we’ve seen today either.

The Lenovo Z1 is the first crowd-sourced device launch, according to Lenovo’s Facebook page: “The Lenovo Z1 will be the first phone ever to be launched by a few lucky people attended the Z1 community meet-ups.” It’s a pretty unique idea for a product launch and you can watch the live stream below or on Lenovo’s website.

The Lenovo Z1 is housed in a metal frame with a 5.5-inch Full HD display and front-mounted fingerprint sensor. It’s packing the quad-core Snapdragon 801 clocked at 2.5 GHz with 3 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage (but without microSD expansion). The Z1 supports dual-SIM cards which support Indian bands FDD Band 3 (1,800 MHZ) and TDD Band 40 (2,300 MHz).

The Lenovo Z1 camera is also pretty impressive, sporting a 13 MP Sony IMX214 sensor with OIS and an 8MP front-facing camera. As usual, there’s a massive battery stuffed in there too – 4,100 mAh – which should see you breeze through a day of solid use without too much trouble. The Lenovo Z1 uses USB Type-C and supports the USB 3.0 standard. The Lenovo Z1 will be available for Rs. 13,499 ($200) on May 19 at 2 PM on Amazon India.
