Koushik Dutta of CyanogenMod fame is teasing fans with support for screencasting Android to the Chromecast, a feature that might be coming soon to his AllCast app.

Koush has been one of the most prominent independent developers for the Chromecast, having released an early app for streaming local content from Android devices to Google’s HDMI stick. After a hiatus caused by Google’s decision to restrict API access to select partners, Dutta was able to bring back the highly desired capability to his AllCast app last week, when Google released a public SDK for the Chromecast.

Now it seems Koush is gearing up to bring another great capability to AllCast – the ability to mirror the screen of an Android device to a TV, via the Chromecast. The feature will probably work just like Mirror, an app for screencasting to Apple TV, that Koush released last year. Here is Mirror in action:

Details are scarce for now, but we will sure keep an eye on Koushik Dutta’s exploits in the future. Have you tried out the updated AllCast with your Chromecast? What’s your take on it?

any way to screencast without an apple tv or chromecast? i have a smart tv

If your tv and phone support miracast.

This is the last price of the puzzle for making chromecast totally awesome!

If this happens and performs well, I’ll totally buy the full app. I recently tried slimport with my G2 and N7 only to find out my Samsung TVs don’t support it, and there seems to be no other good wireless mirroring solution at the moment.

    • Really? My Note 3 mirrors flawlessly on my Sony TV. No setup or pairing required, it “just works” when I turn on Screen Mirroring on my phone. Fast, smooth, wireless, full audio, and only minimal delay between the phone and TV.

Hmm… I wonder if I can go near someone’s house and Mirror them some porn while the kids are watching TV…

Yeah, my tv is about 5 years old, and it’s a known issue apparently. I can do video pretty easily with Allcast or other apps and my Chromecast, where the delay is not much of an issue No-lag wireless would be ideal and is probably the future, but I’d take a no-lag wired approach if that worked now.
