koolu_rgbCNET news posted a little piece a while back that slipped our radar. The FreeRunner from Koolu is set to land in a few weeks time with the fully-fledged consumer versions hitting in mid-July. According to Koolu Chief  Technology Officer Jon Hall, the FreeRunner is aimed towards midsized businesses and developing countries and will ship worldwide.

The Toronto based firm are really pushing the open concept of their device, stating that the driving force behind its release is a response to telephone companies who limit and restrict many of the different uses available on modern day devices. In his interview with Toby Wolpe of ZDNet UK, Hall sticks it to the man, stating:

“This is a very open concept,” Hall said, “and it gives you control all the way from your handset to your data center for the first time.”
