After announcing the Kobo Arc just weeks ago, Kobo has made some changes to its plans, dropping the 8GB version of the Arc entirely, and cutting the prices on the rest of the line of 7-inch tablets.
Perhaps in response to the recent release of the Kindle Fire HD, Kobo announced in a press release today that they would be lowering the prices for their upcoming Kobo Arc tablets. The 16GB version will now cost $199.99, putting it in a somewhat better position to compete with both the Kindle Fire and with Google’s Nexus 7.
Prices for other models have changed as well, with the 32GB version now costing $249.99 and the 64GB version coming in at $299.99. The 8GB Kobo Arc was not mentioned at all in the press release.
The Kobo Arc packs a 1.5GHz dual-core OMAP 4470 processor, a 1280 x 800 215-ppi screen, and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. The tablet is fairly small and light at 12.4mm thick and only 364 grams. The device runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but Kobo has said that their development plans for Android 4.1 Jelly Bean are already in place. Unlike some previous Kobo devices, the Arc is Google-certified, so Google apps and the Play Store are included.
Kobo expects to release the tablet in November, and pre-orders are available now if you want to ensure that you get one as soon as they’re released.

The Kobo Arc is the only tablet that learns about the interests of its user, rather than tracking payment and browsing history, to suggest more of the content they love. Beyond the Tapestries interface which is designed to reflect the personal tastes of its user, consumers can also personalize their Kobo Arc experience through more eReading options, selecting from black or white models, as well as colourful SnapBacks in blue and purple.
The highly responsive Kobo Arc is driven by a 1.5GHz OMAP 4470 dual-core processor to deliver more processing power while retaining more than 10 hours of battery life in a single charge, giving consumers a highly responsive and long-lasting multimedia experience. In Kobo’s laboratory drop-tests, the Kobo Arc’s ultra-durable glass proved more resistant to damage than any other tablet currently available in the market.
