However, if you have your eye on the 4G version, then you will have to stretch your patience until next week.
The Kindle Fire HD 8.9 is the largest of the family, sporting a screen with a 1920 x 1200 resolution clocking in at 254 ppi. Combine that with high quality Dolby audio and a TI OMAP 4470 processor, and you have yourself a real good device. While the operating system may not be for everyone, the device design and overall user experience will be on par with typical tablets at similar price points.
Speaking of price, the base model will run you $299, while the 4G model will set you back a whopping $499. While this price is a little high considering that it really is only offering one more feature, it still isn’t too bad when compared with the iPad that will cost you $629 for similar connectivity. On top of that, the “groundbreaking” data package will run you an additional $49.99 a month for the first year.
This is the moment we’ve all been waiting for as this will determine if the success of the original Kindle Fire was just a fluke or not. This will allow us to see if the world was simply jumping on a cheap tablet, or if there really is a demand for a device priced similarly to other Android tablets but with a heavily skinned user interface.
