Kindle Fire users will be happy to know that there will be an Ice Cream Sandwich update on their device. The ROM is called ENERGY which is based on Cyanogenmod 9. Thanks to NRGZ28 of XDA Developers Forum we can now experience the ICS feature and its beautiful interface.

If you want to try this ROM, just follow the simple steps below.

  • Make sure that your phone battery is charge at least 60%
  • Backup your phone data into your computer.
  • Turn on USB Debugging, on your homescreen tap Menu> Settings> Application> Development. Then, make sure that USB debugging is checked.

  • Kindle Fire with TWRP recovery installed
  • USB Data Cable
  • Computer
  1. First, download the energy on your computer.
  2. Then, Connect your Kindle Fire to the computer using your USB Data Cable.
  3. Next, Copy the energy file to the root directory of your SD card.
  4. Disconnect your Kindle Fire to the computer.
  5. Turn off your phone.
  6. Go to Recovery: To do this, turn off the phone, then power it on. When the yellow triangle appears, press and hold the power button until the light turns orange and then release.
  7. Once you’re in recovery, do a full wipe: select the wipe> Factory Reset.
  8. Go back to the main menu and select Install> then select the energy to start flashing the Energy ROM (CM9).
  9. Finally, go back and select reboot> system to reboot your device.

Congratulations, you have successfully installed the Cyanogenmod 9 to your Kindle Fire. Enjoy exploring your new device.

are there any drawbacks or problems after using this ROM ?

    • Yeah I want to know that too. Sound working? How’s the WiFi? Is the hardware acceleration enabled? If I can’t sync my data, play any games or watch Netflix I would like to know before I try it.

This rom is good, but buggy. It freezes at random moments, which gets on my nerves.

On ‘power-off’ close down, something remains running. The screen goes blank and the power button is off, as in a normal power-off, I have switched off every thing I can think of, but the tablet remains warm and the battery rapidly runs down to dead flat in about 6 hours. This, of course, makes the tablet no longer portable as it needs to be plugged in most of the time.

    Anyone any ideas

Apart from that, this is a great ROM

Just installed this. been playing with it for a couple hours now. touchscreen can be a little less responsive than the factory OS, But its not enough so to make me want to switch back. Otherwise, everything else seems to be working great so far..
