Well, look what we have here! Two new ROMs for two of Samsung’s WiFi-only tablets, the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and the Galaxy Tab 8.9. There’s no prize for guessing which tab will get Jelly Bean and which one will see Ice Cream Sandwich.

Starting with the WiFi Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 – we reported back in September about a possible Jelly Bean update for the slate, one that turned out to be a dud. Now, the GT-P3110 tablet is finally getting the real Jelly Bean deal.

For the time being, it seems only those lucky folks in France have gotten the over-the-air update from Samsung. If you’re wondering what it packs inside, you can find the ROM right here. As listed there, the software version is P3110XXCLK5.

As for the WiFi Galaxy Tab 8.9, Samsung has rolled out the Android 4.0.4 update for owners of the tab in Malaysia. We don’t know when the update will hit other regions, but you can download the new firmware here (search for P7310 model).

We’re not entirely sure that the ICS ROM will play nice with all WiFi Galaxy Tab 8.9 variants, so you may want to hold off installing it on your device for now. It’d be best to wait for Samsung to officially deliver the Ice Cream Sandwich update — as it’s only a matter of time now.

When can I get jelly bean update for my original galaxy note?

  • Andrew Wilson

Do they update some of the pre-installed software too, or is it the OS only (which would still be cool)? Am thinking of the Galaxy 10.1 Note, which I am hoping comes with Jelly Bean soon. I’d like to see S-Note improved a little (stability, features). Any thoughts?

    • EddieT

stability? like what? inquiring minds wants to know.. my solution for you.. is to Google “xda adjust stylus sensitivity” (but remember “it” is not a normal stylus)

      • Andrew Wilson

Sorry, I did not mean stylus sensitivity (I am fine with that). Specifially, I find S-Notes sometimes bombs out. It’s a bit flakey (I use it a lot). Knowing that of course makes it easier to manage. Chrome is actually worse. I also find it necessary to close a few apps with manually with Task Manager to keep speed up (whereas my Note 2 requires no such intervention: it seems to keep resources always ready for whatever I am using now). It could be more the OS at fault (ICS issues) than the Apps of course, but either way, I would welcome Note 2 stability and performance on my 10.1. The features upgrade I referred to is clearly provided in this next update anyway, as the video from Samsung clearly show – air view and such. They will be really useful for me. I can hardly wait to try for the firmware upgrade. I really like my 10.1. I may have to marry my soon-to-be-upgraded 10.1. :)

When we will get jelly bean update for Tab 2 7. 0 plus in India….??

  • petermgates

Hmm, Samsung pushed 4.0.4 to some US P-7310 owners back in August. Since then… nothing.
You’ll have to excuse me if I’m not optimistic that this heralds a worldwide deployment.
    Would be nice though.
