Owners of the HTC Inspire 4G will have one more reason to love the device, as an all new Ice Cream Sandwich ROM based on leaked firmware from the HTC One V is now in the making.

Pitted against the newer dual-core or quad-core handsets these days, the HTC Inspire 4G may no longer look as inspiring as when it first came out.  But, with Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich and HTC Sense 4.0A (Lite) running on it, the device may provoke inspiration once again.

Thanks to XDA Developers member proxuser’s Primo-S custom ROM, the HTC Inspire 4G can now enjoy the up-to-date firmware of the HTC One V, plus the following features:

  • odexed system
  • pre-rooted
  • support for init.d
  • free 25 GB on Dropbox
  • support for multiple languages
  • up-to-date apps

The developer has noted, however, that the camera, camcorder, Wi-Fi hotspot, and USB tethering are not yet working.  Some other unidentified bugs and issues are also expected.  Some users have also reported issues with the sound/audio.

If you’re a huge fan of HTC’s Sense UI then the Primo-S 3.0 ROM is definitely worth a try. Read the rest of the guide to learn how you can install it on your HTC Inspire 4G.

Requirements

  • HTC Inspire 4G — rooted, S-OFF, and with ClockworkMod Recovery installed.
  • Fully charged battery or at least 70% battery left.
  • Backup of your personal data and files.

Instructions

  1. Download the latest Primo-S ROM for the HTC Inspire 4G from here (PrimoS-v3.0.zip, md5sum: 6c9168c3ccda528ebcb440357c2a022c).  Save the ZIP file to your PC.  Do not unzip the file.
  2. Download the fix package for the sound issue on the HTC Inspire 4G from here (inspire-fix-primo-v3.zip, 5.1 MB).  Do not extract the file.
  3. Connect your HTC Inspire 4G to your PC via USB cable.
  4. Copy PrimoS-v3.0.zip and inspire-fix-primo-v3.zip to the root of your phone’s SD card.
  5. Disconnect your phone from your PC.
  6. Switch off your phone completely.
  7. Reboot your phone into recovery. You can do this by holding down the Volume Down and Power keys.  If you get stuck at the red exclamation mark screen, press both the Volume Up and Power buttons to enter recovery mode.
  8. In recovery, create a Nandroid Backup of your existing ROM by selecting “Backup and Restore” then select “Backup”.
  9. Return to main menu of recovery mode.
  10. Select “Wipe Data/Factory Reset” then select “Yes” on the screen that follows to confirm the data wipe.
  11. Select “Install zip from sdcard”, select “Choose zip from sdcard”, browse for the PrimoS-v3.0.zip, select the file, and confirm the installation by selecting “Yes”. It may take 5-10 minutes for the installation process to finish.
  12. Repeat the previous step for inspire-fix-primo-v3.zip.
  13. After the installation is complete, select “Go back” then select “Reboot system now” to reboot your device.

Congratulations! You have successfully installed the Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich and HTC Sense 4.0A (Lite) on your HTC Inspire 4G via the Primo-S custom ROM based on firmware from the HTC One V.

Paul and I.T. are synonyms. If you need help with I.T.-related stuff, call on Paul. His experience with Android phones goes way back to the ancient single-core-phone days. But, he keeps himself up to date, so now he has a dual-core beast in his pocket, and is looking forward to getting his first quad-core monster, and when it comes, his first eight-core phone. Perhaps he should be called Mr. X-Core, where "X" equals the number of CPU cores.

    Camera Not Working

  • use this for mass storage: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1389375
use this for wifi tether: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=og.android.tether

you may have to start-stop-restart tethering for it to work.

also it can muck up your wifi so you have to restart phone to get it working again.

The file mentioned in this page inspire-fix-primo-v3.zip, seems to have
been moved. Checked at many sites, Googled, but all search results point
to the same server, which has the file removed. For those needing to install the audio patch (to fix no audio or no microphone working), I found this link to work :

File has a different name, but it works. Was the only one I found to work.

With the ROM mentioned in this page, primo 3.0, WiFi works for me. Only thing missing is camera, and, bluetooth can’t find my headset, or my PC can’t connect to the phone. Also, Facebook contacts are not syncing correctly with phone contacts (contacts appear on phone but as separate contacts (doesn’t merge them automatically with the existing duplicates). Also, no photos are appearing for Facebook contacts.

I installed the Primo 3 ROM 2 days ago, along with the audio fix (see my previous comment on how to fix this). Bluetooth can’t find my headset, nor my phone can be discovered by other devices. WiFi does work.

Facebook is not correctly syncing with phone. Contacts do appear but w/o photos. Also, phone contacts are not merging automatically with Facebook contacts (need to run a manual merge). Hope the photos issue and the camera are fixed soon. Until now, phone runs great, better that with the factory instaled 2.3 Android (AT&T).

There seems to be a 3.3, 3.4, and 3.5 versions of this file, but they all appear under the HTC Desire, and Desire HD pages. Could these other files be used on the HTC Inspire 4G? My though is that if some of these other ROMs get the bluetooth, camera, and/or Facebook issues fixed, I could install one of them.

Try this link (file has a different name but it works the same) :

I can’t find the audio fix anywhere. The link in the article and the one posted in the discussion don’t work. Does anyone know where I can find it?

  • http://twitter.com/germs German Vazquez

Why? Why I will install a ROM on my HTC that does not has wi-fi and camera functionality fully working? I better go with the official At&t update instead.

  • Sean

    Any camera fix yet?
