The Sakshat tablet still appears to be on track to land in January 2011. The Indian government recently awarded the manufacturing contract to HCL, a massive electronics, computing and information technology company.
This type of movement from the Indian government suggests that they are very serious about getting things going for January and apparently we can expect 1 million units for the first phase. This phase will include only the 7-inch version but in the future we can expect 5-inch and 9-inch too. For now, the 7-inch version will feature 2 GB RAM, WiFi connectivity, camera, USB port and the whole thing will be powered by a 2-watt system to ‘suit poor power supply areas’
