Praise be to the gods of open source. It appears that some smart fella has put together an app for the T-Mobile G1 that handles automatic screen rotation based on the accelerometer instead of only rotating the screen when the keyboard is exposed.
Sweet.
That should make a lot of folks happy as they are web browsing [...]
Today Aardvark Labs released screen shots of its upcoming Microsoft Exchange client for the Google Android platform that we showed you before. The screen shots show the various configuration screens and the message viewer. The data on the message viewer screen shots has been garbled to protect the innocent, since it is live email data.

Our friends across the pond seemingly have started receiving a new RC8 firmware update for their UK based T-Mobile G1 smartphones. According to Talk Android, the update appears to be pretty much the same as the USA’s RC29/RC30 updates.
It didn’t take long for cooked G1 firmware images to start showing up on XDA-Developers. If you have not yet updated your phone to RC30 firmware, you can, in theory, install this modified firmware to get not only the RC19/RC29 telnetd root hack, but also an honest to goodness setuid su command for easy root [...]
Thanks to the efforts of one appropriately named Jay Freeman, it is now possible to get a version of the Debian Linux distro running on your T-Mobile G1 along side of Android. You get the same Android phone functionality you’ve always had, but you can also install and run normal Linux compatible applications on the [...]
It appears that Chinese cell phone manufacturer Huawei, a member of the Open Handset Alliance, will have its first Android powered smartphone on the market in the first half of 2009. A Huawei representative said that his company will manufacturer Android handsets that will then be private labeled by other companies, much in that in [...]
Back in August we mentioned a deal that was brewing between Google and Verizon Wireless that would see Google’s search being integrated into Verizon phones, and we speculated/hoped that this might increase the chance of seeing an Android Verizon cell phone at some point. Verizon sits firmly in the LiMo camp, after all.
Well, according to [...]
Enjoying your new found root access to your T-Mobile G1, are you? That’s great. Soak it all in. We’ll wait.
Ah, you’re back. Well, thanks to the G1’s over the air (OTA) update model, that root access is going the way of the dinosaurs. For now, at least. RC30 is being developed and will be sent [...]
Well, that’s the case according to the headline on the infamous DigiTimes website, at least. The headline reads as “HTC to ship Android G1 phones to Asia-Pacific markets in 1H09, says paper”, but the story, and the source it quotes, makes no mention at all of the Dream/G1 or even Android.
We’ve said it before; DigiTimes [...]
Manually update your G1 firmware….at your own risk, that is.
It seems that the guys at the XDA Developers site have figured out how to download and install the latest firmware update from a microSD memory card.
You first need to download the firmware update file. It might take multiple attempts, sometimes the link doesn’t work.
Copy [...]
