Microsoft quote: Android is “free like a puppy”
In a recent press event moderated by Mark Spoonauer from laptop magazine, General Manager of Windows Consumer Product Manager James DeBragga provided the world with a quote that we’re not too likely to forget in the near future.
To provide some context, Spoonauer initiated things by asking CEO of Entourage, who make Android based eReader and mobile internet products, why Android was his preferred operating system. The answer was as if from a text book, quoting its ‘free’ price tag along with versatility. However, Microsoft’s DeBragga seemed to disagree, saying Android “is free like a puppy.”
To unpack this statement and understand what DeBragga really meant, we have to think about what puppies are like. We can assume DeBragga has access to a bunch of free puppies but that he also believes that Android looks good, is cute and seems right in principle, but when you actually get it home it needs to be house trained and can be difficult to live with. Don’t forget all the walking you need to do when it grows up (I guess think updates). Of course, DeBragga noted that Microsoft’s consumers rely heavily on the quality of their support through both Microsoft and its partners. It truth, the comment comes after a long line of Android based products at CES that once-upon-a-time would have been running windows.
And because Microsoft is a well-known source of unbiased, accurate technical information, you know it’s true.
lol Microsoft, completely unable to innovate and stuck in the 90′s. With a monkey CEO, deprived of all thoughts of ingenuity and vision.
If MS thinks that Android users have to update a lot, they haven’t been using their own operating systems. My Vista machine has to update once a week for security reasons!
MS needs to support its partners because they don’t let the partners tweak the code themselves
Free like a puppy is certainly much, much better than an atrociously priced and uncontrollably incontinent, rabies-infected mad hound.
