Flan gallery application now available for Android 2.0!
Remember that ultra sleek gallery app you’ve seen in the many Nexus One videos that have been posted in the last 2 weeks? Well, now you can have that app on your Android 2.0 or 2.0.1 device, but mainly the Motorola Droid. The team over at Droidmuff.in have discovered that it has been ported and is rather easy to install. There is no rooting necessary but I should note that it is slightly unstable. Here are the step by step instructions:
- Download gallery_flan.apk to your computer.
- Copy gallery.apk file to your sdcard.
- On your phone go to Settings, then Applications and enable Unknown Sources.
- On your phone, use a file manager such as Astro to browse to the gallery.apk file. Tap the file and install it.
- You will now have two Gallery applications listed in your launcher — the second one is the flan port. Tap it to launch the application.

The new version of the gallery brings much needed improvement over 2.0 including the ability to swipe left or right to view pictures, a much more clean version of the interface, more functionality and some neat visual effects. As you will see in the video posted below, there is now a quasi-3D effect when scrolling left and right in the gallery, it doesn’t look to serve much purpose but it certainly looks cool. The entire application seems to run much quicker than the 2.0 gallery application and the animations are stutter free. I did however, notice that it crashes if you hurry it along without giving it time to load everything, this was rare but others are noticing it too.
Some added functionality includes a new slider bar and view changer. If you have a large gallery, you can use a slider bar at the bottom of the screen for faster scrolling, or you can choose which view, thumbnail/grid or sorted by date pictures were added to the device. Also, after installing the app I noticed that it gave me new options when long pressing on the home screen to add wallpapers. For added convenience, it now asks to add from the standard wallpaper gallery, the new gallery or your camera gallery.
The new upgrade shows the direction that Android is going to with a fluidity and gracefulness to it which will leave you excited for things to come. The only downfall that I see is that it is still lacking multi-touch so don’t think you will be pinching to zoom anytime soon. Full pics and video are below, enjoy!

i can’t get it to install on my g1…is there more specific directions for G1 users
Hi….
I dont know if i am doing it wrong. but i scanned the QR code for this widget, but it didnt download the widget for a new gallery, it just downloaded a new and weather app.
I have tried to install the app put putting it on my sd card, but im a bit confused as to how to install it once it is on my sd card.
Any help would be greatful
Thanxz
I am a G1 user as well
Word from users is that it doesn’t work on the G1. It’s actually very sluggish on my Droid, very spotty performance right now.
There is no QR Code for the Gallery, that is only for the news and weather widget. You have to download the file listed above and move it to your phone via USB Mount, then install the file via file manager like Astro Manager.
I really want to love this gallery but the performance is so crummy. Almost every time I tilt the phone and the accelerometer kicks in it crashes the gallery. I think the only fix is to wait for the official release. Otherwise, I will be sticking to B&B gallery. Not as flashy, but gives you multitouch and the swipe function.
