Android Market sales & AdMob release July Mobile statistics
Every month mobile advertisement metrics company ‘AdMob’ release world-wide statistics on smartphone requests by OS. The short summary is that Android is still growing, and the Google operating system has now claimed 7% of the world smartphone market share. This puts it on a level par with RIM OS, together accounting for 14%. Overall, Android grew 40% and much of this growth can be attributed to the UK market where Android requests are growing rapidly.
It is likely that next month we shall see further increases for Android as the myTouch 3G launched and other Android based devices have become available in more countries. Apple’s iPhone see their overall share drop 2% to 45% along with Symbian who drop 1% to 33%.
In related news, TechCrunch are reporting that Android Market sales are not really doing all that well in comparison. In fact, the puny $5million/month market may also be an over-estimate of what is really going on. In the words of TechCrunch, “Today Android developer Larva Labs
has posted
some of the sales figures for its top applications, and the results are not impressive: Larva has two apps in Android’s top paid apps list called Battle For Mars
and RetroDefense
, ranking #5 and #12 respectively, and between them the company has raked in an average of $62.39 per day over the last month. Ouch.”
No one is saying we can really know what is going on from the reports of one company, but still, I couldn’t put it better myself. Ouch.
