Samsung: expect touchscreen Android phones well under $100 next year
Speaking to a New York Times reporter at yesterday’s Sprint event for the Samsung Reclaim, Samsung’s product manager for the Reclaim, Casey Ryan, said that consumers can expect to see touchscreen equipped Android smartphones on the market next year that sell for well under US$100.
He didn’t necessarily specify if he meant Samsung phones at that price or just that the industry as a whole would offer them, but either way, that works for me.
Nobody from Sprint or Samsung at that event really wanted to comment to me on the HTC Hero coming to Sprint or what Samsung’s first Android offering for Sprint might be.

The handset price is a very small amount of money in the total cost of ownership of an Android phone right now, which is about $1500+ over two years. To really increase Android market share, they need to drop the data plan requirement and allow people to have intermittent online access through free wifi hotspots or at home.
