T-Mobile USA and UK releasing over the air Android 1.5 Cupcake firmware update now

android cupcakeYes, the time has come, G1 owners.  Both T-Mobile USA and T-Mobile UK have started rolling out the Android 1.5 firmware update for the T-Mobile G1 smartphone.  This means that you early Android adopters will finally get access to all of the features long promised by Cupcake.

No idea how long it will take for all of the G1 smartphones out there to receive the update, but users in the UK and USA both have started receiving it.

There are likely going to be some software application issues with the new firmware, though.  Some things that were allowed in the 1.0 and 1.1 releases won’t fly on the new version, and some of the new layout features could break apps that were based on some unsafe assumptions, so we’ll have to see.

Let us know in the comments when you receive your Cupcake update over the air, and if you find any application glitches as a result!
