Dell taking its smartphones to China, possibly bringing Android with them
Reuters is running a story today that quotes two analysts as stating that Dell is going to start selling its own smartphones in mainland China. Supposedly Dell is working with Chi Mei Communications for the hardware and is working with Red Office for the operating system software.
Reuters said that Red Office confirmed that it was working on OS software for Dell.
The analysts told Reuters that the smartphones would roll out in China first, followed by the U.S. and Europe. Analyst firm Goldman Sachs wrote in a report:
“Our industry checks indicate that Dell, barring any further delays, is likely to launch its first Android smartphone in 2Q09″
