Archos to unveil Android based “internet tablet” smartphone
According to a press release, media player maker Archos is planning to unveil an Android based smartphone in an “internet tablet” form factor that will offer users a fully function 3G phone experience as well as provide them with the high-quality Archos multimedia experience we have come to expect from the company.
According to Pocket-Lint, the device will sport a 5-inch touchscreen display and a built-in storage capacity of up to 500GB (hard disk based, obviously). The device is said to measure 1cm thick and will offer high-speed HSDPA and HSUPA downloads and uploads on compatible 3G networks.
The new tablet is set to use one of Texas Instrument’s OMAP 3 processors, for what the company claims will be “laptop like” performance while still providing up to 7 hours of video playback.
The as-yet unnamed device will supposedly be available in Q3 of this year. No word on whether or not we can expect to see it in Barcelona next week at the Mobile World Congress event.
