Kogan Agora is put on ice

image_21News from down under suggests that the Kogan Agora (Pro) has been delayed indefinitely and those that have pre-ordered the hand-set have already been promise their money back. Ruslan Kogan, the master mind behind the Agora/Agora Pro, has allegedly cited a meeting with Google at its US headquarters as the fuel for the decision to withdraw distribution. Why will the Agora no longer be available this January? We’re not really sure. Mr Kogan must have signed a non-disclosure agreement because the details are rather slim at this stage.

The Age, a Melbourne based new website, quotes Mr. Kogan as saying “… it now seems certain the current Agora specifications will limit its compatibility or interoperability in the near future.” More specifically, “One potential issue is that developers may create applications for the Android operating system at a higher resolution and screen size than the Agora provides in its current form.”

This specific reason from Kogan doesn’t fly well with us. It makes little to no sense why future versions of the Android OS should prevent the Agora from going live in its current form. So what if developers will be able to create apps for Android that are at a higher resolution and screen size than what the Agora currently offers? Isn’t one of the main plus points for Android that the OS is flexible for any type of device (including screen size and resolution)?

It remains to be seen whether this story is 100% accurate, since there is no official announcement on the Kogan website. We’ll keep you posted, for sure.

  1. *This* is not what I wanted to read when I woke up. I mean, we’re two weeks away from supposedly receiving the devices we ordered.

    Bah.

  3. Or perhaps it really has nothing to do with screen size or resolution but is a silent promise of awesome new features in the new release of the Android OS and therefore is great news for us because it means that it is that much better than the current version!
