T-Mobile launching big commercial push for the G1 Google phone

T-Mobile G1

T-Mobile USA appears to be launching a large, multiple week long campaign that focuses on the newly launched T-Mobile G1. We’ve included a video of the commercial at the end of this post.

This initial commercial sets up the premise for the campaign, with people asking a lot of questions that, presumably, the G1 will help them find answers for. The campaign doesn’t look like it will be as catchy as what Apple puts out, but mocoNews is saying that this will be T-Mobile’s largest advertising push yet.

You can check out the first commercial video after the jump.

  1. This commercial is horrible. I see where they’re going with it and I know what they’re trying to do because, after all, I am on the Android Authority website. Microsoft just finished unsuccessfully trying a similar ad campaign. While the failure of it has been linked to two rich dudes trying to connect with regular people, I didn’t like it because of the baited questions that never really got answered by the ad.

“Can I find this somewhere cheaper?” Come on! Splashing a new (not eye-catching) phone in front of them and telling them to buy it is not going to make people switch carriers, extend contracts, run to stores or anything else. Show them the Shop Savy app after asking the question then you have their attention. That’s what got me hooked on the phone.

  2. My guess (hope?) is that is what this is leading to. They are going to show these question type commercials for a while, then show how the people in question actually get the answers. I’m not saying that’s a great plan or not, but I believe that is the intent.
