If you consider yourself a PC RPG fan and aren’t a super young pup, odds are you have at least heard of Icewind Dale, if not played it religiously. For me, this is one of my favorite PC RPGs even to this day, and I still have fond memories of small group LAN parties with friends that centered mostly around ID, ID2 and the Baldur’s Gate series. And now that experience has arrived to Android, via Google Play!

Like Baldur’s Gate, the game takes place in the “Forgotten Realms” universe, though the game focuses on a very different part of the world, starting with Easthaven and expanding out to several other towns in the Icewind Dale region. As for the story line? Basically you and a group of adventurers begin investing “strange happenings” in a neighboring town and things escalate from there.

The gameplay is still very good, despite the game’s age, and the rules are based D&D 2nd edition. The game does have a more than a bit of a learning curve, though it’s pretty easy once you get accustomed to it. The Android version of the game is optimized for touchscreens and includes the original adventure as well as the Heart of Winter expansion. The game will work on both phones and tablets, but the interface will likely work better on bigger displays and it is also worth mentioning the game takes up a massive 2.6GB of storage space.

For those interested, Icewind Dale can be found on Google Play for $10. While that’s a lot to ask for a game that is nearly a decade and a half old, it is likely worth the money for classic RPG fans and for old ID fans that are looking to give the game another go on their favorite Android device.
