While the Huawei Ascend P1 has been available in many markets since the summer of 2012, it has yet to arrive in the United States, until now. The Ascend P1 will now be sold via Amazon for $449.99 outright.
The Ascend P1 is a solid mid-range device that should play nicely with carriers such as T-Mobile, AT&T and Straight Talk. As for the hardware? The phone has a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display, dual-core1.5GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 4GB internal storage, microSD and an 8MP rear cam.
Other specs include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, Dobly Surround Sound, a 1670 mAh battery and Android 4.0 ICS. For those wondering, it is not capable of LTE but will play nicely with HSPA+ 3G.
Unfortunately, this is probably a little too late to the market. If the phone had arrived closer to its launch elsewhere for $449.99 it would have been a reasonable price. Now that the LG Nexus 4 is around, there are cheaper options for those looking to cut the contract for good.
Still, the Nexus 4 is awfully hard to get your hands on at this point. If you desperately need a phone now, the Ascend P1 might be worth looking into.
What do you think of the Ascend P1, is the asking price way too high or not?

$450 for last year’s “eh” phone? Nah, I’ll pass.
It’s more or less the same mid-range category as the LG Optimus L9 (P769). But the price almost doubled… Huawei is on the wrong way..
