Even though it hasn’t been styled as the “world’s fastest smartphone”, like its cousin, the Ascend D Quad, the Huawei Ascend P1 Android-based phone has stirred up interest among technology enthusiasts ever since its official unveiling, back at CES.
With a pretty snappy dual-core 1.5 GHz processor under its hood, as well as a very thin, slim and stylish body, the Ascend P1 looked like a decent device to fill that gap between mid-range and high-end devices. All this little guy needed was a fair price and a timely release.
The first details about the phone’s availability pointed towards a mid-April release in China and we are very happy to report to you today that Huawei have delivered on its promises. The Ascend P1 has gone up for sale a couple of hours ago in the world’s biggest smartphone market, with several other markets set to follow by the end of this month. The handheld’s official price is 2,999 CNY (around $475) in China, which is pretty on-par with what we all expected.
Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Australia will be three of the countries to follow suite in the next couple of weeks, with Europe and Latin America expecting the device sometime in June. No words yet on when exactly will the gadget hit the United States or even if it will ever come to the US, but the guys at Huawei have stated in their press release earlier today that “availability in other markets is to follow soon”, so we can still hope.
My guess is that we will be seeing this smartphone in the US during summer and it will almost definitely be made available for even less than those $475 charged in China, which, at least as far as I’m concerned, could make this one of the biggest hits of 2012.
If you happened to miss the Ascend P1’s official unveiling back in January, you should know that the smartphone runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box, is powered by a dual-core 1.5 GHz TI OMAP 4460 processor and sports a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display with a 960 x 540 pixels resolution and Gorilla Glass. The rest of the features are themselves pretty appealing, with 1 GB of RAM, 4 GB of on-board storage, an 8 MP rear-facing shooter, and a 1.3 MP front-facing camera.
Measuring a mere 7.69 mm (0.3 inches) in thickness, the Ascend P1 should catch your eye with its very nice looks, or in the words of Huawei’s marketers “sexy design” and “smart features”.
So, how about it, guys? Will you be looking for this elegant 4.3-incher from Huawei when it hits your market, or is it not enough to make it worth your time and money?
