Very little is currently known about Verizon’s upcoming Android superphone, the HTC Vigor, but last week’s leaked photos of the HTC Vigor on Droid Life tell us a few more things about it. The most revealing is the shot of its contoured back side, which reminds us of an earlier HTC device, the HTC DROID Incredible.
Although no indication of 4G LTE capability is shown on the handset’s photo (since the handset is probably just a test unit), the HTC Vigor will most likely have it. Its rumored high-end specs will be such a sorry waste if the device wouldn’t have 4G LTE.
The handset’s color scheme also suggests the possibility that the HTC Vigor might be launched as a new handset in Verizon’s DROID series. We won’t be surprised if the HTC Vigor gets renamed into the HTC DROID Incredible HD. Though, it may also be renamed into the HTC Thunderbolt 2, since the earlier HTC Thunderbolt will be retiring when the HTC Vigor is released on Verizon.
After an arguably long hiatus, the HTC Vigor was placed under the limelight again when it appeared as model ADR6425LVW on a benchmark result page for NenaMark last month. The NenaMark page didn’t mince the HTC Vigor’s specs–a 1.5-GHz Qualcomm processor, Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread, and a display resolution of 1280×720. The benchmark was also conducted on a Verizon connection, which probably hints at one of the HTC Vigor’s prime destinations.
The rumor about a Verizon destination became a very likely possibility when the HTC Vigor appeared again on an alleged Verizon roadmap leaked online. The list shows October 5 as the target release date for the HTC Vigor on Verizon. It will be replacing the HTC Thunderbolt.
When HTC announced its partnership with Beats by Dr. Dre, word spread fast about the HTC Vigor’s potentially becoming HTC’s flagship device with Beats by Dr. Dre technology. An alleged specs page for the HTC Vigor that reportedly appeared on The Phone House also reflected this rumor.
The HTC Vigor’s rumored specs are as follows:
The HTC Vigor is rumored for release on Verizon about a month after the Motorola DROID Bionic is unleashed. That’s a very small release window, if you ask me. Which of the two are you getting?
