My friend Leigh at CoolSmartPhone just noted that HTC has posted an update to its Sync application for the HTC Hero.  Sync allows Hero owners to synchronize their Hero with a copy of Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express, so that you don’t need to rely on Google Mail and Calendar for your contacts and appointments.  Sync will also let you install 3rd party applications without going through the Android Market.
