HTC’s upcoming jewel-of-a-smartphone seems to be packing more power than we initially gave it credit for. That is, if we take as fact the latest intel that TmoNews got from a tipster.

Last week we reported about the HTC Ruby and showed you a couple of photos that Pocketnow received from several sources. We speculated that the HTC Ruby might have similar screen size (3.8 inches) to the HTC myTouch 4G on T-Mobile.

The TmoNews tipster, however, mentions that the HTC Ruby is definitely not an HTC myTouch 4G spin-off. Rather, the leaked specs seem to suggest an affinity to the HTC Sensation.

According to the leak’s source, the HTC Ruby will be carrying a 4.3-inch qHD (960×540) touchscreen, an 8-megapixel primary camera, and Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity–just like the HTC Sensation. But, the HTC Ruby has better and faster specs than the HTC Sensation: 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB of RAM, 2-megapixel secondary camera. The HTC Sensation only has a 1.2-GHz dual-core processor, 768 MB of RAM, and VGA-quality (1.3 MP) secondary camera.

The source also mentioned separate, dedicated buttons for photo snapping and video capture.

The HTC Ruby is allegedly heading to T-Mobile some time later this year. There have also been talks of possible similarity to another rumored HTC device, the HTC Vigor, which is heading to Verizon. The latter device, however, has better screen resolution at 1280×720 pixels.

Looks like HTC is about to give you a lot of options for holiday shopping, eh? Samsung is also said to be unleashing its own flood of Android smartphones in the coming months. That ought to give you more options. Have you narrowed down your choices for your next Android smartphone or tablet? What devices are on your shopping list?
