HTC One or bust – no other One-branded smartphones coming this year

    HTC One [aa] 600px (2)

The recently launched HTC One will be the one and only One phone this year. In other words, you shouldn’t expect a supersized One+ to arrive at some point in the coming months nor should you look forward to a cheaper mid-ranged One-insert-letter-here to hit certain carriers.

The news comes straight from Phil Roberson, head of HTC’s UK and Ireland who went on record to confirm that “this is the One:”

HTC One is the flagship device.

Last year we had the X and the S, where people had different personal preferences between the two.

We just said, let’s just create one flagship device for this year.

That’s certainly an interesting move for HTC, one that should further strengthen the One brand this year. The Taiwanese company should have done this a few years ago instead of oscillating between various product names that nobody remembers after a while.

Last year, HTC tried to create its own Galaxy-like family, the One handsets, by launching a garden variety of One Android devices that would meet, but that didn’t quite work for the company. After all it does take a few years to build a strong Android brand like Samsung did.

Now it looks like HTC is taking another cue from Apple’s playbook by launching just one flagship device under the One brand. Ironically though, various rumors out there seem to suggest that this may be the year when Apple finally launches more than one new iPhone, therefore slightly modifying its own mobile strategy for the year.

Are you buying the One this year, or are you waiting for something more interesting?

Why the hell would anyone choose a Tegra 4 over Snapdragon 600 or 800? So that they can get 2 hours of battery life?

Great looking device with all the top specs, I just wish the bezel was smaller, could’ve been a 5″-er.

Nope. I’m waiting for the gs4. Been eligible to upgrade for the past month now

HTC has a problem, if I go to a shop all I see are non sold old HTC phones at non reduced prices, even loads of HTC flyer tabs gathering dust. Blackberry had afire sale on playbooks to clear old stock to make room the new products. HTC needs to allow major reductions on older stock, focus on making the ONE the only premium HTC product in the shop. Market this thing as the god phone! Otherwise it will fail. Refocus the websites to only promote this and price aggressively. Do after sale promotions, like Samsung do.
And keep promoting this all year round. Promote every aspect, build, software, look and feel. Like Apple does.
      Otherwise they are doomed.

      Motorola X!

I can never buy a non Nexus device ever again. Its just a waste of money to buy anything else IMHO. If Google is going to keep selling there phones for $300-$350 off comtract why buy anything else? Buying these phones for $200 to $300+ on contract just doesn’t make sense to me anymore.

well see if it can hold against other high end phone later this year but i’m thinking that won’t last until the 3 or 4 months before the year ends b/c between now and than a lot can change and HTC might be like in a tight situation like last year. again just my theory.

This is some pretty good news to me. I’ll wait for the Galaxy s4 to come out and chose between the two. But if you really look at all the specs for this phone, Samsung is going to have to really raise the bar in order to make a better phone.
