Rumor: HTC preparing a 5-inch+ variant of the HTC One

Earlier in the year, HTC’s Phil Roberson stated the HTC One would be the only “One” flagship device from the company this year. Despite that claim, we’ve already heard about the HTC M4, which is rumored to be a miniature version of HTC’s latest flagship (a la Galaxy S4 Mini). Now it seems that we may also see a larger-screen version of the HTC One.

The latest rumor comes from an unnamed source reporting to Pocket-Lint. The source does not confirm the exact size of the plus-sized HTC One, only that it will be at least 5-inches. Unlike the M4, which packs a weaker 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor, the sources indicate the plus-sized HTC One will have basically the exact same specs as the company’s current flagship (aside from the display).

As with all these kinds of ‘reports’, skepticism is a must. That said, it wouldn’t be horribly surprising if this turned out to be true. The HTC One has been a major hit for the company, in a time when HTC is seeing quite a bit of internal struggle. It makes sense that they would want to take the HTC One’s success and run with it.

The big question is whether or not this could have something to do with the continued rumors of a HTC One for Verizon. A 5+ inch Droid DNA successor certainly sounds like an interesting proposition, and technically wouldn’t break the promise of not making another “One”-branded flagship this year. Keep in mind that’s just speculation on my part, though.

What do you think, would adding new HTC One variants be a good idea for the company? Would you purchase a 5-inch-plus version of the HTC One or not?

get a life sado, its samsung who plays dirty like that. HTC ONE ROCKS…………ESP ROOTED

        • OMGgary

The One has extrasensory perception when you root it? I bet if you overclocked it you could contact aliens!

lol tard this is samsung style not HTC.. and sammy suck… HTC made the best smarthphones ;) not like samsung shits

        • steve gerrard

Which one is dying and which one is king of the chain? Pfft, loser

        • OMGgary

I love the way that, in amongst the vulgarisms, you said

          “HTC made the best smartphones…”

Past tense! No use denying. With it a simple Freudian slip, you show that even you know the truth about HTC’s place in the tech world.

    • OMGgary

Hey, you know what would really prove that HTC are coming back would be to post a big ass picture of a HTC One, into which somebody had photoshopped a screenshot from a Nexus or a Galaxy S4 Google edition, on every forum you visit. That would like totally stop all the problems that HTC has been having lately.

    • OMGgary

By the way, HTC would probably get better results of they stopped riding the employees while they are stooping like you said, and let them get back to building phones.

My first thought was: This could be the Verizon variant.

  • MasterMuffin

    “a la the” :DD

5″ One with bigger battery and sd card slot sounds great, could make me buy my first HTC!

HTC should really focus on the entry level to mid range market in INDIA…

Their design & materials are top notch … they just need to hop in I guess …

    • http://riteshtripathy.wordpress.com/ Ritesh

Design, materials and entry level do not go together. HTC already has very good devices in the mid range and there’s the M4 and Desire 600 coming up.

  • http://riteshtripathy.wordpress.com/ Ritesh

Would only make sense if it was 5.5″ or higher with a Wacom type of digitizer and pen (basically a Galaxy Note 3 competitor) with a massive 3500+ MAh battery. Otherwise, wasted effort and brand dilution all over again..

    • joe

I prefer the size of 7″ just like ASUS fonepad.

      • Gilles LeBlanc

Im 6 foot 4 inches not sure I can fit that in my pocket, you sure? How would you carry it?

    • Gilles LeBlanc

I totally agree… biggest screen wins for me. Im thinking 6.5 inches is where I want to be and stay. I want to ask people how big is big enough?

  • dooder

I they increase screen size that should give them room for an SD card slot(seeing as size limitations are the excuse they are giving for it). If it comes to Sprint I could be upgrading early.

  • chris

Again I say, HTC fulfill ALL of your current One orders FIRST!!! SMH

  • freedomspopular

Put a pen in it and you just might be able to pry my Note 2 out of my hands.

  • Matti M

Nice man, some people want a *HUGE* screen. But i will buy 4.7 probably. and also its a rumour. but ok

  • Jonathan Smith

Doesnt make sense to me to add .3″ and go through all the trouble of creating extra production lines just to say it’s so slightly larger. The screen already embarrasses Samsung’s pathetic amoled crap as it is, and the 4.7 is unbelievably comfortable, why ruin a beautiful combination just to say you match an inferior giant on paper?

  • AussieGreek

Where are all the “no SD card no removable battery” losers?…..wait for it

    • SeraZR™

dont care abt battery but sd card for me is a must

      so, i’m here :P

  • heath

I have the One right now, and absolulty love it. They only thing that bumms me out is I wish they had just a little more real estate. If they make a larger one I’m sold before I even see it!

  • The_pagey

All you sad dickheads being overly protective about your phone’s manufacturer, seriously, get a life. The One and the S4 are both awesome handsets, someone having a preference for either one doesn’t make them stupid and your preference for either one doesn’t make the other manufacturer bad. I guess for you small minded people the only reason you have a smartphone is because you need it to help boost your childlike intellect. Assholes.

    • spg210

He calls people “small minded” then proceeds to call them “assholes.” Pot meet kettle.,

  • Blake

If HTC is making a bigger version of the One, would that mean that they’d have more space for a removable SD CARD and battery

  • amine ELouakil

It was annouced months ago, HTC is working on the succession of the butterfly (which is the DNA+-something) I don’t think it’s coming anytime soon tho, not before septembre-octobre periode spot on for the holidays season and a little before the Note 3 launch
