HTC One 2 (M8) specs and features imagined in concept video

by: Chris SmithDecember 12, 2013

The second-generation HTC One model – also known internally as the HTC M8 and unofficially called the HTC One 2 – is reportedly going to arrive at some point in early 2014, so we’re not surprised to see fans already imagine specs and features for the device in a new concept video.

Created by the folks over at Techradar, the two-minute video above tries to imagine what the future M8 will bring, and how it may look like. As you can see, the M8 is expected to be fairly similar to its predecessor in terms of design, although the device is slimmer in the video, and features an edge-to-edge display.

As for the hardware under the hood, here’s what the HTC One 2 – hopefully HTC will avoid using the silly name – will have to offer according to this concept:

  • 5-inch Supper LCD3 display with 2560 x 1440 “2K” resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass 3
  • 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor
  • 3GB of RAM
  • 16/32/64GB of storage
  • microSD support
  • 10-UltraPixel camera
  • 4000mAh battery
  • fingerprint sensor on the front of the handset
  • Android 4.4 KitKat with HTC Sense 6.0 on top

At the end of the day, this is still a concept, both when it comes to imagined design and specs, so don’t get too excited about it. However, we do expect the HTC One 2 to be one of the best handsets of next year, and put up a formidable fight against the next-gen Galaxy S and Xperia Z or future Moto X successor. And let’s not forget that a recent benchmark test may have actually revealed some of the real specs of the M8:

What would you like to see in the future HTC One flagship smartphone?

  • yobbei

    snapdragon 800 is so 2013

    • Dale2

      and the 4.0 MP

      • Amine Elouakil

I’m pretty sure that a regular 13mp or even 16mp mass produced camera would be much cheaper than 4 mp ultra pixel of the one, The One camera was a proof of concept I guess if they manage to make a better all rounder (this is the logical step for a second generation) then I’m easly sold, I don’t print 13mp posters on my walls, on the other hand the night picture were handy for me

      • Fred Chiang

? said 10 mp ultrapixel camera, 4.0 is for htc one

    • Amine Elouakil

lol? NO Phone with the Snapdragon 800 8×74-AB is out yet, you do know that ? The only phone annouced with that chip is Xiaomi Mi3
Not to mention that rumors are rumors.

      • Jayfeather787

The Nexus 5, Lg g2, Samsung Galaxy note 3, and Lg G flex all have the Snapdragon 800.

        • derp

He is talking about the updated sd 800, which will probably be called the snap dragon 805

        • Amine Elouakil

They use the Snapdragon 800 MSM8x74-AA which is not the same version as that annouced in the chart, there are tree version of the S800, the basic model which the AA that came out in of Q2 2013 the AB and the higher clocked AC Version are Q4 2013/Q1 2014 Products (the newer version has a much bigger memory brandwidt, higher clocked CPU and GPU (the AC version is 2.5Ghz) and other enhancement in the bag the S800 AC is basically an an S805 on the cpu side what makes the difference between the two is the GPU.

          • Jayfeather787

Ok, sorry. don’t know a whole lot about the specific types.

          • Amine Elouakil

np we are here to share knowledge

    • Jayfeather787

Doesn’t matter, the Snapdragon 800 has more than enough power, and may be the fastest chip available when it is released. 2.3 GHz quad core is a freaking computer, and the Adreno 330 is pretty powerful.

    • Fred Chiang

it’ll probably use the new snapdragon 805 coming out in 2014

  • MasterMuffin

Why do these concept makers always have to throw some impossible specs in? That screen? That battery? MICRO SD CARD? Also the RAM, camera and fingerprint sensor on front are extremely unlikely going to be like that (especially the RAM, it’s Kit Kat, no need for 3Gb).

    It looks nice though

    • Amine Elouakil

screen is fine the resolution sound possible as HTC always used leading edge technology but edge to edge screen sound impossible if the phone is aluminium build (due to metal thickness and volume rocker, 4Ah battery sound a bit too much and that doesn’t go with HTC current production 3300mAh sounds more like it, 10 mp (ultrapixel) would require a camera the size of the Nokia 1020 one not happening, a slight increase arond 6mp or they can reduce the size of pixels a bit and get an 8mp would possible, as for ram meh, it’s possible ram producers are currently mass producing 3Gb modules but as you said it’s useless if the Sense 6 is as efficient as it current counterpart

      • MasterMuffin

Exactly. I would like to rephrase and say that they aren’t impossible specs to make, it just won’t happen ever (basically impossible specs) :)

    • Azeem

How is 2560×1440 “impossible”? How is anything you said “impossible” specs?

      • MasterMuffin

        Read Amine’s comment

      • Shark Bait

Not impossibe, but you don’t need that many pixels in a small scree . its a waste of money. I barley notice the pixel jump from the nexus 4 to nexus 5, never mind this many

Idk about the other specs, but a “10mp UltraPixel” actually made me laugh my a$$ off.. in the Android Revolution HD blog, search “Cameras in Phones – what do we really need?” and read that article attentively.. there they explain basically why even an 8mp camera with the pixel size of the “ultra pixels” not only would make your phone almost one inch thick but cost more than a thousand dollars -just for the lens..

      • abazigal

Not impossible, but barring Samsung, it seems unlikely that any other manufacturer will be able to put all those specs in a phone and charge a competitive price for it.

    • MadCowOnAStick

The S5 concepts are crazier :P

  • Androidway

After the HTC One 2, the next one will be called “HTC One Two 3.”

  • Androidway

Looks nice but I will stick to buying a Nexus 5 since it’s more affordable unlocked.

  • Shark Bait

I would love for them to make that battery !!!,

  • ichuck7

Please not a 2k display. Focus on the battery instead.

  • shutupanddie

Who cares. Just more fantasy nonsense from deluded HTC fanbois.

    • Arturo Raygoza

for real tho, watch the leak after leak strip down all those projections down to reality

  • dandroid13

    A pile of HTCrap.

  • joser116

    I want the Snapdragon 1000.

  • Xavier_NYC

I’d buy it simply for the 4000 mAh battery.. Especially with a google play edition..

  • Data

    I’m impressed!

  • Mystery Man

    16gb should not exist

  • Vahid

    dream on!

  • м ч × Φ м α † ● s €

“10mp UltraPixel”?.. lol even an 8mp camera with the pixel size of the “ultra pixels” not only would make the phone almost one inch thick but also cost more than a thousand dollars -just for the lens.. anyone who doesn’t believe it: search the Android Revolution HD blog for the article “Cameras in Phones – what do we really need?” and read it attentively

  • TechNetwork

    Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 msm8975 2.6GHz 64-bit Quad Core + Adrenno 420
is actually what this will be equiped with!

  • zamroni

4K screen is over kill for 5″. It is better that they create smaller full HD phone.
iPhone 5s sales just beat S4. It is a proof that user still want small smart phone. Smart doesn’t mean big.

  • Abhishek Kumar

Why not just call it HTC Two?

  • George Av

If this phone comes with a bloody 4.0mp camera i won’t even bother look at it at all even if it does have a micro SD card slot. Looks like it could be the S5 for me since it will be metal and HAVE a micro sd card slot.

    IP55-58 missing to be ideal phone… :-)
