HTC is hosting a “celebration” in New York City this coming September 20, and no one has any clear idea what will be celebrated, although the invitations that HTC has been sending out to the press say “Come celebrate in style with HTC.”
Unlike Samsung’s press invitation for its U.S. launching of the Samsung Galaxy S II last August 30, HTC’s event doesn’t give a hint about anything. We are suspecting, as is usual with such events, that HTC will be unveiling a new device.
As to whether the device will be an Android, Windows Phone 7, or Qualcomm Brew–operating systems that run on HTC phones (with Android holding majority stake, of course)–we really have no clue.
If HTC is launching a new Android device at the said event, there are several upcoming and rumored Android gadgets made by HTC. Nailing down the exact one is pretty hard to do at this point.
Likely candidates include the HTC Vigor, HTC Holiday, HTC Ruby (HTC Amaze 4G), HTC Sensation Special Edition 2, HTC Bliss, and HTC Rhyme.
The HTC Vigor, rumored to be released on Verizon on October 5, is said to carry a 720p display, a 1.5-GHz Qualcomm processor, and Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread. Very little about this device’s specs is known from official sources, but recent leak photos show the device sporting similar looks to the HTC DROID Incredible. The HTC Vigor is rumored to add one more challenger to the Android superphones race currently led by the Motorola DROID Bionic and the Samsung Galaxy S II.
The HTC Holiday is a 4.5-inch Android phone with a qHD display. Photos of its prototype have been spotted on the Web. The device is rumored to be bound for AT&T, and, by some ironic twist, an alleged Sprint document leaked its rumored release date on AT&T–some time this month.
The HTC Ruby (rumored to become the HTC Amaze 4G on T-Mobile) will reportedly sport a 4.3-inch qHD touchscreen, Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread, and a dual-core, 1.5-GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Earlier leaks pointed to an October 26 release date for the HTC Ruby / Amaze 4G, together with the Samsung Hercules (T-Mobile’s variant of the Samsung Galaxy S II). More recent leaks, however, are suggesting an earlier release date–October 15.
Another possible device is the rumored HTC Sensation Special Edition 2, which reportedly will be an updated version of the earlier HTC Sensation plus Beats by Dr. Dre technology.
Yet another possibility is the HTC Bliss, which will reportedly be a mid-range Android smartphone specifically targeted at female users. Sources say that the HTC Bliss will be released on the Verizon Wireless network under the name HTC Rhyme and has a rumored release date set for September 29. Some folks speculate that the HTC Rhyme may come with Beats by Dr. Dre technology.
Others speculate that the event could be the U.S. launch of the HTC TITAN and the HTC Radar, both running the Windows Phone operating system and launched in Europe on September 1.
We’re nearly certain that the HTC “celebration” on September 20 will not just be about food and drinks but also about new HTC devices.
What do you think will HTC unveil on September 20?
