New screenshot shows HTC G2 running Sense 5

by: Andrew GrushFebruary 13, 2013

Just last week we reported that the HTC M7 would feature a cleaner, simplified look with Sense 5.0. Now a new screenshot allegedly taken from the upcoming lower-end HTC G2 seems to reconfirm Sense 5’s new design.

This isn’t the first time that screenshots of HTC Sense 5 have supposedly hit the net, but it certainly does seem to follow the same design pattern we’ve seen before, albeit slightly scaled down to fit the 320 x 480 display in the HTC G2. More than likely we will learn more at MWC later on this month, or perhaps even at next week’s HTC One event.

For those wondering about the HTC G2, there isn’t much to be excited about. The G2 is a basic 1GHz single-core smartphone with a 3.5-inch display.

The real news here is the change in the UI, not that it supposedly comes from the G2. What do you think of the new UI when compared to the current version of Sense? Like it or not?

This isn’t the fully repackaged Sense 5 UI, the M7 one the HTC One is what we’ll see as the real deal with a totally overhauled UI. The Sense 5 UI for this G2 is more for the lower budget end phones of HTC that are more akin to Sense 4 and lower from the previous models. Don’t bet on seeing this on the HTC One X/S/V or One X+ then, the Droid DNA….that’s debatable.

Way to go HTC. You brought back 16 bit Icons and Android 2.1 design styles from the dead! I never thought I’d see those “features” again!

    • LOL. Looks like Pete Chou wasn’t kidding about HTC getting big into Windows – though at the time I did imagine he meant Windows Phone 8 not Windows for Workgroups 3.11.

who is interested in new versions of bloatware?

  • Jared Persinger

Why would they even change the sense icons if these would be the outcome?

Thanks for swallowing my comment, DISQUS. You rock.

Anyway, didn’t HTC already use the G2 moniker like twice? T-Mobile G2 and EU HTC Hero was called G2 Touch in some countries. 1 GHz single-core CPU probably means it will be a Snapdragon S2. Plenty of power to push pixels to an HVGA screen and have good performance.
