Related to the HTC First, the HTC 606w has recently received approval from the Telecommunication Equipment Certification Centre MIIT in China, as GSM Insider reports.
Obviously, it comes with no Facebook Home (what would be the point, with the social network banned in the country?), like the HTC First, but does feature an Ultrapixel camera and has some of the rumored features for the HTC M4. The image below, coming from said Chinese certification board, reportedly shows the HTC 606w.
The design is indeed very similar to the one of the HTC First, and specs include, just like the “Facebook phone”, a 4.3-inch 720p display, a dual-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 CPU, as well as 1GB of RAM memory. It runs Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, with Sense 5 on top, of course.
The difference, is the Ultrapixel camera (not mentioned in M4 rumors either), which is present on board alongside a 1.6-megapixel front-facing one. While the certification documents suggest that China will be seeing it soon enough, who knows when and if it will make it to the rest of the world. And if it will, it will probably do so under a different moniker.
Would the UltraPixel camera be enough of a reason for you to wait for the HTC 660w?
