We all have been speculating since the announcement of Ice Cream Sandwich, which devices would be getting the upgrade to Android 4.0 or not. Thankfully, HTC has just provided some information that some of us are going to love and others are going to hate. Almost a month ago, I created a list of my predictions on which phones would receive ICS, and which ones may not. Most of the phones announced by HTC to get the upgrade were on my list. We now know, based off what HTC has told us, that this includes the HTC Sensation line, the HTC Rezound – announced last week, HTC EVO 3D, EVO Design 4G, and the HTC Amaze 4G. Here’s the official word from HTC:
HTC knows how excited our fans are to get their hands on Google’s latest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, so we’re thrilled today to announce the first wave of HTC phones that will receive upgrades: We can confirm the brand new HTC Vivid, on sale beginning today, is upgradeable to Ice Cream Sandwich.
Ice Cream Sandwich is coming in early 2012 to a variety of devices including the HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation XL and HTC Sensation XE, as well as the HTC Rezound*, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design 4G* and HTC Amaze 4G* through close integration with our carrier partners.
We’re continuing to assess our product portfolio, so stay tuned for more updates on device upgrades, timing and other details about HTC and Ice Cream Sandwich.
Great news for those of us with those HTC handsets, but what about those with the original EVO, or the Thunderbolt or the Droid Incredible, or any other newer HTC handset? Well HTC has not said no to the upgrade for those phones as of yet. These are just the first in line to get upgraded. As soon as we know what other devices are destined to get upgraded we will be sure to let you know.
Are you happy with this announcement from HTC?
