When Android 4.4 KitKat first arrived HTC promised timely updates within 90 days of the announcement. Now that Android L release has been announced, HTC confirms a similar plan is in place for the next major version of Android. The update will reportedly start pushing out to the HTC One M7 and M8 within 90 days of getting the final code from Google.

So when can you expect your HTC device to make the upgrade? Good question. With Android L release having an early developer preview period this time around, ahead of its fall release, it’s unclear when exactly the final code for L release will actually hit HTC’s hands. In other words, don’t expect the three months to be from today, though we wouldn’t be surprised if HTC plays around with the developer version ahead of time, allowing it to push things out as quickly as possible.

Here is HTC’s official statement on the matter:

HTC is excited about the new features in the Android L release and we can’t wait to share them with our customers. We are committed to updating our flagship HTC One family as fast as possible as part of our HTC Advantage program. We will begin rolling out updates to the HTC One (M8) and HTC One (M7) worldwide within 90 days of receiving final software from Google, followed shortly thereafter by other One family members and select devices.

Either way, it’s good to see HTC staying on top of things, while also not abandoning its now-year-old One M7.

Impressive.. Even though I don’t own an HTC device I’m still impressed by how quickly they’re releasing updates..

That was part of the reason I made the jump to HTC from Samsung. Still got my Nexus though to play around with updates straight away :)

90 days = 3 months .. I wish if they can do something about the update distribution to carriers to make it instant

Hey i too wanna get an M8 but didn’t go for it cause of d cam… it dat horrible as dey say it is?

      • jackjiarocks

Not at all. I find it taking better pictures than some of my friends’s phone like S5 ot Iphone 5S

          How can you say that!?!?
I own an M8 and the picture quality is utter crap!
My wife’s N5’s pic quality runs circles around this phone.

I’m interested to see some of the “subpar S6 and 5s” pictures and the “superior” M8 shots.
