The latest teaser for the upcoming HTC10 suggests that the smartphone's camera will feature an Ultrapixel sensor, OIS, and 4K video shooting capabilities.

If you thought that 2016 was heavy with smartphone camera focused marketing material, 2017 looks set to be even more competitive. Samsung has already switched to larger pixel sizes in the Galaxy S7, the G5 has a modular grip for photographers, and the new HUAWEI P9 wants to revolutionize smartphone photography with its Leica partnership. The latest teaser (above) for the HTC 10 packs a similar claim, boasting “the best ever smartphone for shooting photos and videos.”

Don’t miss:

The teaser is packed full of what I presume are sample shots taken from the new smartphone, along with plenty of pictures of non-smartphone cameras that HTCengineers have been using for inspiration. Keen eyed watchers will also be able to spot reference to a number of the HTC10’s camera specifications at the 29 second mark. There’s mention of an Ultrapixel sensor, optical image stabilization, and high-res 4K video capture, which is all rather promising.

Veteran readers will know that HTC’s Ultrapixel marketing term is nothing new. It’s simply the company’s choice of words for image sensors with larger 2um pixel sizes, which are designed to capture more light. The manufacturer tried out this technology in a couple of its older One M flagships, but the larger pixels ultimately sacrificed resolution and didn’t end up producing overly impressive results.

Since then HTChas reserved its Ultrapixel terminology for its front facing cameras, but it looks like the idea could be reappearing in the main rear camera of the HTC10. Although, the sensor is likely to feature some slightly different specifications than previous attempts, if HTCwants to keep up with rising bar being hoisted up by its competitors.
