After Google and HP recalled around 145,000 Chromebook 11 faulty chargers, buyers of the Chrome OS laptop have started receiving replacement units complete with an unexpected gift card.
The new chargers have been shipped free of charge by Google, and come with a $25 Google Play gift card for users that have been affected by the matter. On top of the gift card, Google has sent in an apology note from the Chromebook team as well.
Android Central reports that the new charger is actually smaller than the previous model when it comes to design (see image below), and that it has “Chrome” branding on its sides. However, the charger has the same characteristics (3A, 5.25V) so you should expect similar performances from it – sans heat dissipation issues one would assume.
Only a few days ago, Google issued the official recall on the HP Chromebook 11 charger, after removing the device from stores a few weeks before that. Some Chromebook 11 users experienced various issues with the charger from overheating to melting during use, which are certainly not the kind of “features” you want from your chargers.
Once the new chargers arrive, you should send the older ones back to Google. Have you experienced any issues with your regular Chromebook 11 charger?

Google is very nice to its customers; I mean, their products are pretty cheap and they give out a lot of these gifts cards out every now and then. Also, they sometimes give out free Nexus devices to people who come to their Google IO events.
