Do you want to root and install custom recovery on your Kindle Fire but you don’t know anything about tweaking our android device? Don’t worry, with the program called Kindle Fire Utility created by Vashypooh of XDA Developers Forum, you don’t need to learn ADB Program to be able to root and install recovery. In this program you will root your device using BurritoRoot and install Team Win Recovery Project (TWRP recovery).

Just follow the simple steps below.

Note:

  • Make sure that your phone battery is charge at least 60%
  • Backup your phone data into your computer.

Requirements:

  • Kindle Fire
  • USB Data Cable
  • Computer
  1. First, download Kindle Fire Utility v0.9.3 on your computer
  2. Then, extract it using Winzip/Winrar, you should get this files:
  3. Next, double click the “install_drivers” to install the Kindle Fire Drivers.
  4. Connect your Kindle Fire to the computer using the USB Data Cable.
  5. Once finished, go to extracted file and double click “run” to start the Kindle Fire Utility program.
  6. Your ADB Status should be online.
  7. If you want to root your device select “install permanent root with superuser” by pressing 3.
  8. If you want to install recovery select “install latest TWRP Recovery”.
  9. Once finished rooting and installing recovery select “boot mode” again by pressing 1 then select “normal” by pressing 1 to boot your device normally.

Known Tricks

  • If you end up stuck at the yellow triangle, in KF Utility select Boot Normal, wait for it to say <waiting for device> and then press and hold the power button 20 seconds until the fire turns off, then when it’s off, turn it back on. This sometimes happens, I have yet to find a clean solution
  • If you end up stuck with a yellow triangle, do not EVER unplug it. Leave it plugged in. Check the windows drivers to make sure it isn’t showing as “kindle” again. Fastboot is different and can cause this.

Congratulations, you have successfully rooted and install TWRP recovery on your Kindle Fire, you can now do whatever you like in your device like installing new ROMs, android market, installing rooted apps and many more.

    HI all,

I have a previously rooted Kindle and it has been running successfully. I “burrito rooted” so only had temporary super user access (I think, I’m new to this). In wanting to update to JellyBean, I attempted completing the following steps. I completed steps 1-7 successfully. Upon finishing that step and beginning to install the latest TWRP, the KF rebooted and froze on the “Kindle Fire” Screen. I have reinstalled the ADB driver, but the Kindle is still showing up as “Kindle” in my device manager. The Kindle is still plugged in, but I am unable to proceed. Any help would be much appreciated. My email is bjhawkins59@hotmail.com
