How to get Unlimited Data on Verizon for Ungrandfathered Lines

January 18, 2012

Last summer Verizon followed AT&T with axing their Unlimited Data, many blamed the coming of Apple’s iPhone which is known to be a data hog. With 4G LTE data speeds hitting 40 megabytes per second and higher, we are going through more data then we used too. Today we are going to show you a nice way of getting unlimited data back on your Verizon line, it’s pretty simple and all based on a glitch in their system in our favor.

Here’s how to do it:

1. Dial *611 from your Verizon phone, or 1-800-922-0204 from any phone.
2. Wait for computer CSR to go through the main menu. You will need your Verizon phone # and account PIN or last 4 of SSN.
3. Hit option 4.
4. When it asks you what you would like to do today say “Add a feature.”
5. If you have a 3G device (which includes all iPhones): Say you would like to add the $20 2GB 3G Mobile Hotspot FEATURE to your phone. If you have a 4G device: Say you would like to add the $30 Unlimited 4G Mobile Hotspot FEATURE to your phone. According to http://stopthecap.com/2011/07/12/…r-account/, they may be able to locate this feature via referencing feature code #76153.
6. Your data plan will now be the $29.99 unlimited data plan, and you’ll have either the 2GB or unlimited Mobile Hotspot feature on top of that.
7. {OPTIONAL – if you don’t want the Mobile Hotspot feature} Log into My Verizon and remove the Mobile Hotspot FEATURE from your account. Many people recommend waiting a few days (at a minimum) to remove the feature. The $29.99 unlimited data plan should remain on your account.
8. If they say they can’t add that feature to your plan, or that you must bundle your data + mobile hotspot service together as a single data plan, tell them thank you, hang up, and repeat the steps above.

Verizon might fix this bug in their system soon so I would say do it as soon as possible so you don’t miss out on it. Let us know in the comments if it worked for you or if you had some trouble.

This is a good trick if it works

I will be trying it once my Bionic gets here tomorrow, switching over to verizon from t-mobile, and I will update how it went. But a number of my friends have done it and it worked for them.

  • netdroid

Um. When the news on this glitch/loophole broke a while back, didn’t they reverse the change on folks’ accounts that had this applied?

  • Aintas8nt

Worked on first attempt for my 4g droid. Took 4 attempts before I could successfully get it for my wife’s i-phone! Thanks!!!!!

And then people wonder why prices are so high to begin with. People trying to cheat the system, and makes the companies spend more money on investigating, and fixing things. Can you just be happy with what you got? Ten years from now you will be saying how great it was to have 2GB for $60 a month. Stop cheating, and stop promoting cheats. If in fact Verizon finds this to be a glitch, and reverses it on you all, you all should be forced to pay extra each month for your stupidity in trying to take advantage. Donkeys. Good day. I said good day! :p

    • Takodabash67

      liberal idiot

      • haha no

Is going through life so painfully stupid difficult? Or are you just kind of used to it by now?

    • charles roberto

Company is ripping you of on something they don’t even make its already there

  • Ontheedge98

Verizon has already closed this system “glitch”. AND they have a team of people who are reviewing ALL added and recently cancelled MHS. They are REVERTING people back to their tiered plans. Comes from people too stupid to stick with the added feature for a month or two and then cancel, no.. they get on.. add the feature and cancel 2 days later. Uh, yeah.. that’s going to ALERT someone. Especially when tons of people are doing it.

  • tw

    yay! it worked. thanks!

    • http://androidauthority.com Alexander Maxham

When did you try it? A lot of people are saying it’s not working now.

      • tl

it was 2 days ago. i just forgot to reply after i did it

        • http://androidauthority.com Alexander Maxham

Just tried it and it worked on my first try :)

  • http://androidauthority.com Alexander Maxham

For all the commenters below that say this is not working anymore, I just tried it about 20 minutes ago and I now have unlimited data, so it is still working.

  • tl

has anyone called back in to remove the hotspot feature? if so did u have any issues?

    • http://androidauthority.com Alexander Maxham

When I called last night, I actually never got the Hotspot feature added even though I asked for it.

      • tl

yeah its on there though . u have to look under added features

        • http://androidauthority.com Alexander Maxham

It took over night for the mobile hotspot to get added, its there now, but wasnt last night.

          • tl

            oh ok

    • Camiller2005

I removed it just fine, and I still have unlimited data.

  • Mehlani

Sorry guys it no longer works I just called and the computer actually stops the rep in their tracks from doing it. However he was totally unaware and would have done it had the computer not stopped him and he had to get a tech over. Perhaps some of you were lucky enough to get someone to override it.

  • Pkiboy2000

worked for me on the first try!!

    • tamia

      when did you try?

  • Curious Android

Alright, I need some help here. I called and did this yesterday. I went to log into my Verizon account online and looked at my data plan (overall I’m part of a family plan) and it showed under my data plan that I have 4 GB Data Bundle with Personal Email and Mobile Hotspot.

Is this not correct? I do not see Added Features – Mobile Hotspot anywhere.

Please tell me if I did this wrong and if I can correct it.

    Thanks

    • Camiller2005

Somthing went wrong, They bundled it… It should just be an add on feature.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/RES7HHLLJLPJBXYNHFQ4CX2L2U Mark

If you guys want unlimited data call me at 310-569-0728 or email me at markiemarc14@gmail.com i work for a private company that still offers it but we are located in los angeles but we do cross state transaction.

  • Kiara

can you do this online without calling the operator?

  • Kiara

so if you wanted to do this with a 3g phone it would be $30 for 2gb, plus $30 for the mobile hot spot. so essentially this is a $60 unlimited plan plus the cost of your talk time plan?

  • Cukiemunstor

Just tried this and it goes straight to a human operator.

  • Hkhkfhdkf

does not work, i’ve tried it a few times, only to those who had it before can get it back..

  • Mark Ramirez

      • bandrulz_234

i’m in Chicago. can you do unlimited for GS4?

  • Thomasshaneallen

My Verizon rep told me not to cancel the hotspot for at least a few weeks or they would catch on to the change XD

    • Heather77

What did you tell them because when I called they are saying the system wont let them add it. email me please asterbills@gmail.com

    • Guest

i’m curious on how you got this to work too…

  • Ron

I dont want to cheat anyone I just want unlimited 4G. I have a very strong signal where I own 5 acres of land, DSL and dialup sucks. FIOS is not available and it will probably take 20+ years. I dont even know which phone to go with. all I know is the cell tower is in view of my property and it belongs to verizon. All sugestions will be read and considered. Thanks

  • Bobsagget

Don’t work no mo’ by calling *611, corporate VZW CS unless you HAD unlimited in the past :-(. The customer service system prompts the agent explicitly not to add this feature code unless u r / were grandfathered. Confirmed.

  • Praudebaugh

how do you know if it works?

  • Mad Fun 83

I know its been a couple of months now, but is this still working?

  • paul

does it still work july 4 2013
