Hotmail App Goes Live in the Android Market – Disappointing at Best

October 7, 2011

Just days ago, Microsoft announced their new Hotmail app for Android. As of 2010, Hotmail was the leading provider of webmail, with over 350 million customers. Mot recently, they have created an app for Android to provide features including push email, synced calendar and contacts, support for multiple accounts and more.

Overview

With hotmail being so late to the game, you would expect a very nice and helpful app. However, the app is really being reviewed as below par. Some of the cons are:

  • The app itself cannot send attachments
  • The app weighs in at 6.1 MB
  • You cannot put the app on your SD card

Hotmail has been pretty atrocious when it comes to mobile access. In iOS, there is not an option for Hotmail and the best you will see is Microsoft Exchange. However, if you do own an Android phone, the general perspective on the topic would be to have a Google Account that includes a free Gmail account. Still with Hotmail? Maybe, its time to switch over to Gmail.
