Update, July 1: The HONOR 5C is now up for sale on Flipkart. Check it out, in gold, grey, or silver, for Rs. 10,999.

Original post, June 22: Huawei wants a piece of the Indian market and it has just the right tool to crack it open – its budget-friendly HONOR sub-brand.

Following its European debut, HUAWEI is launching the HONOR 5C today in India. The 5.2-inch device will go on sale from June 30 via Flipkart at a very affordable Rs. 10,999 (around $160).

If you’re eager to be among the first to buy the device, you can now pre-register on the HONOR website. That will give you a head start in the June 30 flash sale and a shot at winning one of 20 HONOR 6 Plus, a Rs. 26,499 value.

So, what does Rs. 11,000 get you? Quite a lot actually. Like the higher-end HONOR 5X, the HONOR 5C bristles with value features, including a metallic unibody design, a fast fingerprint sensor, a 16nm-based Kirin 650 processor, 3GB of RAM, high-res cameras, and a 3,000 mAh battery.

The HONOR 5C will go up against the Moto G4 – which will cost Rs. 12,499, Lenovo ZUK Z1, and several powerhouses from Xiaomi. With competition like this, HTC’s new Desire 630 (Rs. 15,000) or Sony’s Xperia XA (Rs. 21,000) seem almost comically overpriced.

One thing we don’t like about HUAWEI and HONOR devices is their software – HUAWEI needs to polish and declutter its Android implementation before we can give it our seal of approval. Let’s just hope that rumors of a toned-down EMUI 5 coming later this year are grounded in reality.
